Method of assisting a heart using a dual lumen cannula
A method of assisting a heart of a patient using a dual lumen cannula includes inserting the dual lumen cannula into the patient, positioning a first infusion tube of the dual lumen cannula in an artery near the heart to pump blood thereto, positioning a second drainage tube of the dual lumen cannula in a chamber of the heart to drain blood therefrom. The dual lumen cannula has a plurality of infusion apertures extending through a sidewall of the first infusion tube at a distal end of the first infusion tube; and a plurality of drainage apertures extending through a sidewall of the second drainage tube at a distal end of the second drainage tube. The distal end of the first infusion tube has a tapered portion extending distally beyond a distal-most infusion aperture of the plurality of infusion apertures and to a terminal surface at a tip of the first infusion tube.
Coordinated ventricular assist and cardiac rhythm management devices and methods
Controllers and methods for heart treatments are disclosed herein. The controller can include a communication module that can send and receive data from heart therapy devices. The controller can include memory including stored instruction. The controller can include a processor. The processor can receive a signal of an impending electrical treatment at a processor. The processor can determine a current operating parameter of a blood pump communicatingly coupled with the processor. The processor can determine an adjustment to the operating parameter of the blood pump to affect an impedance of heart tissue to be affected by the impending electrical treatment. The processor can control the blood pump according to the adjustment to the operating parameter of the blood pump.
Ventricular assist device and cardiac electrical stimulation system for therapy control
A medical device system includes a cardiac electrical stimulation device and a ventricular assist device (VAD). The cardiac stimulation device and the VAD are capable of communication with each other to confirm detection of cardiac events.
Ventricular cuff
An implantable system includes a ventricular assist device and a cuff for attachment to a heart. The ventricular assist device includes an inlet cannula. The cuff defines an opening for insertion of the inlet cannula into the opening. The cuff includes an annular fastening member and an attachment member. The annular fastening member is configured to be sutured to heart tissue. The attachment member includes flexible extensions. Each of the flexible extensions is configured to interface with the inlet cannula during insertion of the inlet cannula into the opening so as to cause the flexible extension to flex outward to accommodate passing of the inlet cannula along the opening. Each of the flexible extensions is configured to interface with the inlet cannula to impede extraction of the inlet cannula from the opening.
Vascular access system with connector
A connector for fluidly coupling proximal and distal tubular segments of a fluid conduit is provided. In one embodiment, the connector can include a connector body having an outer surface defining a first outer perimeter and an inner surface defining a lumen. The connector can also include a connecting device having an open configuration and a plurality of closed configurations. The connecting device can include first and second members configured to engage each other to secure the fluid conduit to the connector. The connecting device can also include a plurality of closed configurations for securing fluid conduits of different sizes.
Catheter pump with off-set motor position
A catheter pump assembly is provided that includes an elongate body, an elongate flexible shaft disposed in the elongate body, and an impeller coupled with the distal end of the elongate flexible shaft. The drive system includes a drive component, a motor and a tension member. The tension member is coupled with the motor and the drive component and to cause the drive component to rotate, and thereby to cause the impeller to rotate.
Method and apparatus for long-term assisting a left ventricle to pump blood
A method and apparatus for long-term assisting the left ventricle of a heart to pump blood is disclosed which includes at least one transluminally deliverable pump and a transluminally deliverable support structure which secures the at least one pump within the aorta for long-term use.
Dual lumen cannula with adjustable length infusion tube
A dual lumen coaxial cannula assembly including a first infusion tube having a proximal end, a distal end, and a sidewall extending circumferentially therebetween, as well as a second drainage tube co-axially aligned with the first infusion tube, the second drainage tube having a proximal end, a distal end, and a sidewall extending circumferentially therebetween. The assembly also includes a connector assembly, which has an inlet portion through which a portion of the first infusion tube is configured to extend and an outlet portion through which a portion of the second drainage tube is configured to extend. The connector assembly is configured to enable selective axial displacement of the first infusion tube through the second drainage tube.

Blood pump
A blood pump comprises a pump casing a blood flow inlet and a blood flow outlet connected by a passage, and an impeller. The impeller comprises blades configured to convey blood from the blood flow inlet to the blood flow outlet, the impeller being supported in the pump casing by at least one contact-type bearing comprising a surface of the impeller facing a surface of the pump casing. At least one wash out channel extends through the impeller and is in fluid connection with the passage via a first opening and with the bearing via a second opening. The wash out channel is operatively associated with a secondary pump for pumping blood through the wash out channel towards the bearing. The secondary pump is formed at least partially by said at least one wash out channel extending through the impeller along a direction having at least one tangential directional component.
