MOBILE REAL TIME LOCATION UNIT
The present disclosure provides mobile real time location units for use with an organism, such as a mammal, bird or plant to allow lighting networks to monitor the location, status, health and environment of the organism and to adjust the photon signal of the lighting network based on the needs of the organism.
INTRA-ARTICULAR NEEDLE PLACEMENT DEVICE AND METHOD OF USING
The present invention relates to a device for measuring, recording, and acting in response to changes in air pressures encountered through the lumen of a connected needle. The device signals when it has been powered and signals when the device recognizes both pressures and pressure change rates indicative of synovial cavity joint penetration, such as knee joint penetration. Synovial cavity pressures detected and acted upon may either be supra- (positive) or sub-atmospheric (negative). Internal light emitting diodes and a laptop connected display are demonstrated as signaling and communication mechanisms. Methods for delivering medicaments into human and animal intra-articular cavities or joints such as synovial cavities are provided. Furthermore, methods for facilitating the diagnoses of joint effusion also are provided.
System and method for delivery of gas to a tissue
A system for delivery of gas to a tissue, comprises: a first container containing the gas, an applicator having a distal end arranged to deliver the gas to the tissue, a second container containing a purging gas, and; and a flow control system for controlling flow of gas. The system also comprises a three-port valve having a first port for receiving the gas from the first container, a second port for receiving the purging gas from the second container, and a third port in fluid communication with the applicator. The valve is switchable between a first state at which the first port fluidly connects to the third port, and a second state at which the second port fluidly connects to the third port.
Lighting for root growth
A biological lighting system to provide temporally- and spatially-modulated photon flux output and spectral power distributions to plants on a circadian and circannual basis, or circadian and life cycle basis, to maximize effective and efficient growth in a horticultural setting. The photon flux or irradiance output and the spectral power distribution are modulated to match circadian and circannual rhythms, with individual or multiple luminaires controlled through one or more controllers. Different lighting spectra can be employed depending on the direction of illumination. The photon flux or irradiance output and the spectral power distribution may be set as best suited for any particular plant species, and the system is also useful for raising animals.
DEVICE FOR TREATING AN INDIVUDUAL SUFFERING FROM CARDIAC INSUFFICIENCY, CARDIAC ARREST, CIRCULATORY ARREST OR STROKE
The invention relates to a device for treating an individual suffering from cardiac or circulatory arrest or from a stroke, comprising a blood withdrawal device (BE) that is applied to the individual (P), an analysis unit (BA) which is directly or indirectly connected to the blood withdrawal device for detecting a blood analysis result (BAE) providing at least one characteristic of the blood, directly or indirectly connected to a blood return device (BR) that is applied to the individual (P) and is designed to deliver a substance to the individual via the return device (BR).
Insufflation apparatus and methods
An insufflation apparatus and methods for using same are disclosed. The apparatus is equipped with an interactive system for administering reproducible intratracheal aerosols in a consistent automated manner. The insufflation system is useful, in particular for use with experimental animals, including mice and rats and also for treating small animals via the pulmonary route in veterinary medicinal practice.
System for extracorporeal blood treatment, treatment apparatus, kit and method for operating a system for extracorporeal blood treatment
The present invention relates to a system (100) for extracorporeal blood treatment comprising a first inlet (1) for introducing a bloodstream to be treated into the system (100), three blood treatment apparatus (A, D, G), as well as an outlet (2) for discharging a treated bloodstream from the system (100), wherein the system comprises an adsorber apparatus (A) and/or a plasma separator apparatus, a dialysis apparatus (D) and a gas exchange apparatus (G), and wherein the three blood treatment apparatus (A, D, G) are sequentially connected in series in a functional state of system (100) application between the inlet (1) and the outlet (2) of the system relative to a direction of blood flow of a bloodstream to be treated and can be consecutively perfused extracorporeally by a bloodstream to be treated. The present invention further relates to a treatment apparatus comprising such a system, a kit comprising the components of such a system, a method for operating such a system (100) as well as a method for extracorporeal blood treatment with such a system (100).
BAG SYSTEM FOR COLLECTING BLOOD FROM ANIMALS
Bag system (1) for collecting blood from an animal, comprising a collection bag (2) fluidically connected, via a first tubing (4) associated with an inlet tubing of the collection bag (2), to a first sampling needle (3), a second sampling needle (4) being connected via a second tubing (6), said second sampling needle (5) having an outer diameter that is different from the first sampling needle (3).
Virtual patient donation
A system includes a device having a blood side, a solution side, and a semipermeable membrane structurally configured for diffusion of one or more solutes therethrough. The system also includes a first extracorporeal circuit having one or more first fluid connectors for connecting the blood side of the device to the vascular system of a first animal, a second extracorporeal circuit including one or more second fluid connectors for connecting the solution side of the device to the vascular system of a second animal, a first pump in fluid communication with at least one of the first and second extracorporeal circuits, and a driver mechanically coupled to the first pump, the driver configured to drive the first pump using energy from an energy source.
Using Alternating Electric Fields to Increase Permeability of the Blood Brain Barrier
Certain substances (e.g., large molecules) that ordinarily cannot traverse the blood brain barrier can be introduced into the brain by applying an alternating electric field to the brain for a period of time, wherein the frequency of the alternating electric field is selected so that application of the alternating electric field increases permeability of the blood brain barrier. In some embodiments, the frequency of the alternating electric field is less than 190 kHz (e.g., 100 kHz). Once the permeability of the blood brain barrier has been increased, the substance is able to cross the blood brain barrier.
