Alginate oligomers for use in overcoming multidrug resistance in bacteria
The invention provides a method of overcoming resistance to at least one antibiotic in a multidrug resistant bacterium, said method comprising contacting said bacterium with an alginate oligomer together with the antibiotic. The multidrug resistant bacterium may be on an animate or inanimate surface and both medical and non-medical uses and methods are provided. In one aspect the invention provides an alginate oligomer for use together with at least one antibiotic in treating a subject infected, suspected to be infected, or at risk of infection, with a multidrug resistant bacterium to overcome resistance to the antibiotic in said multidrug resistant bacterium. In another aspect the method can be used to combat contamination of a site with multidrug resistant bacteria, e.g. for disinfection and cleaning purposes.
Anti-human PAI-1 antibody
[Problem] To provide an anti-human PAI-1 antibody for preventing or treating pulmonary fibrosis by binding to active human PAI-1 and inhibiting effects mediated by the active human PAI-1. [Means for Solution] The present inventors have investigated anti-PAI-1 antibodies and consequently have provided an anti-human PAI-1 antibody comprising a heavy chain variable region consisting of the amino acid sequence of amino acid numbers 1 to 118 of SEQ ID NO: 2 and a light chain variable region consisting of the amino acid sequence of amino acid numbers 1 to 108 of SEQ ID NO: 4.
TIME-CONTROLLED GLUCOSE RELEASING HYDROGELS AND APPLICATIONS THEREOF
The present invention relates generally to a hydrogel releasing glucose in a time-controlled manner, to medical applications thereof, and to a method for preparing said hydrogel.
Conditionally immortalized long-term stem cells and methods of making and using such cells
Disclosed are methods for conditionally immortalizing stem cells, including adult and embryonic stem cells, the cells produced by such methods, therapeutic and laboratory or research methods of using such cells, and methods to identify compounds related to cell differentiation and development or to treat diseases, using such cells. A mouse model of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and cells and methods related to such mouse model are also described.
Prevention of tissue ischemia and related methods
Provided herein are compositions for preventing, ameliorating, and/or reducing tissue ischemia and/or tissue damage due to ischemia, increasing blood vessel diameter, blood flow and tissue perfusion in the presence of vascular disease including peripheral vascular disease, atherosclerotic vascular disease, coronary artery disease, stroke and influencing other conditions, by suppressing CD47 and/or blocking TSP1 and/or CD47 activity or interaction. Influencing the interaction of CD47-TSP1 in blood vessels allows for control of blood vessel diameter and blood flow, and permits modification of blood pressure and cardiac function. Under conditions of decreased blood flow, for instance through injury or atherosclerosis, blocking TSP1-CD47 interaction allows blood vessels to dilate and increases blood flow, tissue perfusion and tissue survival.
Factor VII composition having a substantially homogenous isoelectric point
The present invention relates to a factor VII composition having a substantially homogeneous isoelectric point and to a method for formulating such a composition. The present invention also relates to the therapeutic use of a factor VII composition having a substantially homogeneous isoelectric point.
Compositions for prevention of adhesions and other barrier applications
A method has been developed of preventing or limiting formation of adhesions by administering to a site in need thereof, in the absence of or after bleeding or leakage of fluid has been substantially stopped, a self-assembling material which forms a barrier to formation of adhesions. In certain embodiments, the self assembling materials are peptidomimetics, nucleotidomimetics, di- and triblock copolymers, N-alkylacrylamides, or dendimers. These materials are also useful in a method for regeneration or repair of tissue or cells forming tissue.
Organic Compounds
A solid pharmaceutical composition suitable for oral administration, comprising: (a) S 1 P receptor agonist; and (b) a sugar alcohol.
TREATMENT OF SUBMENTAL FAT
This disclosure relates to compositions, kits and methods for non-surgical reduction of localized subcutaneous fat such as that associated with a cosmetic fat accumulation. The methods employ compositions having specific concentrations of a salt of deoxycholic acid which provides a superior fat cell necrosis with modest adverse effects. Examples of localized subcutaneous fat are found in the submental area, in particular under the chin.
ONE COMPONENT FIBRIN GLUE COMPRISING ZYMOGENS
Provided herein is a single component sealant formulation (e.g. in a liquid form), methods for its preparation, and use. The formulation includes fibrinogen; vitamin K-dependent clotting zymogens comprising at least Factor II (FII) and Factor X (FX).
