Air is passed through the disinfection chamber where it is purified and disinfected before it is delivered to the user of the apparatus through the air distribution unit. The apparatus can be configured as an open or a closed circuit system. The system may be configured to purify air in an airplane, a conference room, a classroom, or as a portable unit for an individual user. As a portable unit the disinfection chamber can be incorporated into a back pack, a vest, a purse, a briefcase, a shoulder bag, a cervical collar, or any other format for being carried by the user.

Alternatively, a clip member attached to the air filter holding member can be utilized to attach the device to the user's clothing or accessories. An air tube assembly extends from the air filter holding member to the mouthpiece for the purpose of breathing filtered air flowing through the air filter assembly. An air intake check valve situated near the end of the air tube attached to a mouthpiece retaining member and an air outflow check valve situated near the outer surface of the mouthpiece retaining member to ensure exhaled air is directed out of the device and is not reinhaled.

The control unit includes a housing to receive the inhalation-air from the air-reservoir, plurality of ducts protruding from the housing to connect with the air-reservoir and with the mask and a valve configured to control the flow of inhalation-air from the plurality of ducts. The switch unit positions a valve to selectively open and close the plurality of ducts for regulating the flow of inhalation-air from the air-reservoir to the housing.
