The invention relates to a method for determining and/or monitoring the air tightness of an enclosed room (2) which is equipped with an oxygen reducing system (1) and in the atmosphere of which at least one oxygen content that can preferably be determined in advance and is reduced in comparison to the normal surrounding air can be set and maintained in order to prevent and/or extinguish fires by introducing an oxygen-displacing gas. The oxygen reducing system (1) has a compressor system (4; 4.1, 4.2) for compressing an initial gas mixture and a gas separation system (3; 3.1, 3.2) downstream of the compressor system (4; 4.1, 4.2) for separating at least one part of the oxygen contained in the initial gas mixture and for providing a nitrogen-enriched gas which is supplied to the enclosed room (2). The differential pressure set in the room (2) is ascertained and compared to a corresponding reference value, whereby information regarding the air tightness of the room (2) is provided.

METHOD TO MITIGATE THE CONSEQUENCES OF AN UNCONFINED OR PARTIALLY CONFINED VAPOR CLOUD EXPLOSION

The present invention concerns a method to mitigate the consequences of an unconfined or partially confined vapor cloud explosion due to the accidental release of a flammable gas in an open area, wherein: means capable to release a flame acceleration suppression product are dispersed in said area, a signal is generated by a detector of said flammable gas release, or by an operator, or by an approaching flame or by the explosion itself, or by any combination thereof, said signal activates the release of the flame acceleration suppression product in said area and in a sufficient amount to transform the flammable cloud into a mixture of flammable product, air and said flame acceleration suppression product to prevent flame accelerations in an unconfined vapor cloud explosion but to let the flammable product burn in case of ignition.

In a specific embodiment the release of the flame acceleration suppression product is made by a signal generated by a detector of said flammable gas release or by an operator and before ignition or beginning of an explosion.

Sensor-Based Fire Detection in a Fluid Conduit

A controller for a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine, and a device for detecting a fire in a fluid conduit, the device having a fluid state sensor for detecting a state variable of a fluid that is conducted in the fluid conduit, are provided. The determination of a fire situation is performed in a manner dependent on a signal of the fluid state sensor.

FREQUENCY FIRE EXTINGUISHER

A fire hydrant repair tool is provided for removing a main valve of a fire hydrant, wherein the main valve has a pair of ring tabs extending upwardly therefrom. The fire hydrant repair tool can include a valve key having a first receptacle and a second receptacle that are configured to receive, respectively, the first and second ring tabs. Each of the first and second receptacles can define a first face that is configured to bias against the first side of a respective ring tab of the first and second ring tabs, and a second face that is configured to bias against the second side of a respective ring tab of the first and second ring tabs. A shaft can be coupled to the valve key.

Inert gas suppression system for temperature control

A method of suppressing a fire includes the steps of dispensing a first inert gas in a suppression area at an initial rate, detecting an undesired temperature in the suppression area, dispensing a second inert gas at a subsequent rate in the suppression area in response to the undesired temperature and displacing a volume from the suppression area with the inert gas to achieve a temperature below the undesired temperature.

Fire fighting training system with integrated extinguishant sensor

A system for developing firefighting skills including a display device configured to display a simulated fire, wherein the display device has a front surface. The system further includes a sensor configured to detect an actual or simulated extinguishant that is directed at the front surface, wherein the sensor is directly coupled to the front surface of the display device.

Fire extinguishing device and method for extinguishing a fire

Fire extinguishing device (100). The invention is characterised in that the fire extinguishing device comprises a flask engagement means (110), arranged to engage with a flask (10) for compressed carbon dioxide and to hold the fire extinguishing device in an operating orientation in relation to such a flask; an actuating means (120), arranged to apply a pressure on a valve (13) of said flask when in said operating orientation so that the valve as a result of said pressure opens and carbon dioxide flows out from the flask, which actuating means in turn comprises a lever means (121) for transferring a force applied by a user within said actuating means (120) for applying said pressure; and a carbon dioxide directing means (130), arranged to direct a jet (20) of carbon dioxide flowing out from the flask when said valve is open.

System, method, and apparatus for the suppression of fire growth

An improved system and method for detection and suppression of fire that addresses the elements of the fire tetrahedron (e.g., heat, oxygen, fuel-rich smoke) to detect and suppress fires is described. Embodiments are comprised of a processor in communication with a detector, a fan, and a number of dampers. Upon detection of a triggering condition by the detector, the processor causes signals to be transmitted to the fan and dampers. Resulting changes to dampers and fans redirects airflow to evacuate heat, oxygen, and fuel-rich smoke through one or more vents in the compartment in which the triggering condition was detected. Advantages of described embodiments include utilizing existing HVAC systems, removing elements of the fire tetrahedron to suppress fires, and reducing unnecessary damage that may be caused by prior art suppression systems (e.g., sprinklers).
