IMPROVED ANTIFREEZE FOR FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEMS

Antifreezes, which include glycerol or a mixture of alkylene glycol and glycerol, water and an organic acid salt, are provided. Exemplary antifreezes include at least about 45 vol. % water, greater than 48 to about 55 vol. % glycerol, 0.1 to 1.75 wt. % of a salt of an organic acid having one or more carboxylic acid groups, and optionally, one or more buffers. Wet sprinkler systems containing the antifreeze, methods of controlling a fire using the antifreeze and methods of preventing a wet sprinkler system from freezing are also provided.

The drag reducer according to the present invention includes a polyalkylene oxide aqueous dispersion that includes a polyalkylene oxide, aluminum oxide, an electrolyte, and water, and that has the polyalkylene oxide dispersed therein. The drag reducer has an excellent frictional drag-reducing effect on an aqueous medium and the like.

LONG-TERM FIRE RETARDANT WITH CORROSION INHIBITORS AND METHODS FOR MAKING AND USING SAME

A forest fire retardant composition contains a retardant compound that includes a phosphate salt. The phosphate salt may include diammonium phosphate, diammonium orthophosphate, monoammonium phosphate, monoammonium orthophosphate, monosodium phosphate, disodium phosphate, disodium phosphate hydrate, sodium ammonium phosphate, sodium ammonium phosphate hydrate, sodium tripolyphosphate, trisodium phosphate, or dipotassium phosphate, and combinations thereof. The forest fire retardant composition may include an ammonium source. The composition may be in the form of a dry concentrate, a liquid concentrate, or a final diluted product. The final diluted product is effective in suppressing, retarding, and controlling forest fires while exhibiting corrosion resistance and low toxicity.

A battery housing includes an inner chamber configured to accommodate galvanic cells, in particular lithium-ion cells, which are provided with a cut-out area that can be opened in the event of failure of the cell. The present application provides water-enhancing, fire-suppressing hydrogels that are formulated to minimize toxicity and negative environmental impact. The present application provides a composition comprising: (i) at least one thickening agent; (ii) at least one liquid medium; and, optionally, (iii) one or more suspending agents, wherein the composition consists of >75%, by weight, consumer-grade components and wherein the composition is a concentrate that can be mixed with water or an aqueous solution to form a fire-suppressing, water-enhancing hydrogel. Each of the at least one thickening agent, suspending agent and liquid medium can be non-toxic and biodegradable. Also provided are the fire-suppressing, water-enhancing hydrogel and methods of production and use thereof during fire fighting or fire prevention.
