Acoustophoretic Enhanced System for Use in Bioreactors
20170355623 · 2017-12-14 ·

A system for enhancing the separation of particles or fluids from water is disclosed. A tank or bioreactor is provided with an open submersible acoustophoretic separator. The separator captures and holds fluid droplets or particles such as cells, permitting them to coalesce or agglomerate until they are large enough and have sufficient buoyant or weight force to float/sink to the top/bottom of the tank or bioreactor. In a tank or bioreactor, the separator captures and holds particles until they are large enough that their weight causes them to settle out of the host fluid. The acoustophoretic device thus speeds up separation of the particles or droplets from the host fluid.

Charged engineered polymer beads/bubbles functionalized with molecules for attracting and attaching to mineral particles of interest for flotation separation

A floating liquid intake for a liquid suction removal system, the liquid intake comprising housing defining an internal cavity. The housing has a hollow and buoyant annular body, an upper cover and a lower cover. The internal cavity is formed between the upper and lower covers. A substantially annular inlet is formed in the annular body for ingress of liquid into the cavity. The annular body has a buoyancy sufficient for the liquid intake to float in a liquid with the annular inlet submerged below the surface of the liquid in which the liquid intake is floating. A pipe extends into the cavity and the pipe includes an inlet that in use is open below the surface of the liquid within the cavity. The pipe extends outside of the cavity for connection to a liquid suction removal system.

Automatic cleaning of lamella plate settler

A cleaning system for cleaning a lamella plate settler includes at least one mechanical cleaning device; a suspension device adapted to suspend the mechanical cleaning device; wherein the suspension device includes a displacement device for lowering and raising the at least one mechanical cleaning device for mechanical cleaning of a lamella plate positioned below the cleaning system. By providing a frame supporting the at least one cleaning device; wheels attached to the frame and adapted to move on rails, the wheels including driving wheels and non-driving wheel, and a sensor, preferably an inductive sensor, adapted to sense the rotational position of the driving wheels, the lamella plate settler can be automatically be cleaned without emptying the basin of water, thus allowing cleaning during operation. A lamella plate settler and a method of cleaning a lamella plate are also provided.

Flow control cartridge

A conduit assembly for a separation device is described herein. The conduit assembly includes a first conduit segment, a second conduit segment, and a removable flow control insert or cartridge, which may be easily installed and uninstalled without removing other components of the conduit assembly from the separation device. The flow control insert may be installed within a top opening of the second conduit segment and includes a projection that extends into the conduit assembly and obstructs or restricts fluid flow at the juncture between the first and second conduit segments.

Particle settling devices

Settling devices for separating particles from a bulk fluid with applications in numerous fields. The particle settling devices include a stack of cones with a small opening oriented upwardly or downwardly. The cones have an interior surface that is convex. These devices are useful for separating small (millimeter or micron sized) particles from a bulk fluid with applications in numerous fields, such as biological (microbial, mammalian, plant, insect or algal) cell cultures, solid catalyst particle separation from a liquid or gas and waste-water treatment.

Grease interceptor inlet chamber

A separation device configured to separate light and heavy components of an effluent mixture. The separation device includes a separation tank, an inlet discharge, an outlet diffuser, and a baffle. The separation tank includes a tank reservoir for containing the effluent mixture during separation, with light components configured to migrate upwardly toward a static water line and heavy components configured to sink adjacent the bottom. The inlet discharge is located within the tank reservoir to supply effluent mixture to the separation tank. The outlet diffuser is spaced from the inlet discharge and located within the tank reservoir to receive a heavy component of the effluent mixture after separation. The baffle is located within the tank reservoir to separate the inlet discharge from the outlet diffuser. The baffle presents a baffle opening adjacent the static water line.

Methods, apparatus, and systems for detecting and removing microplastics from water

Methods, apparatus, and systems are provided for detecting and removing microplastics from wastewater effluent. Both, automatic/remote and manual monitoring and sampling components are included to detect the presence of microplastics. The automatic monitoring and sampling component includes a TSS sensor and associated apparatus calibrated to account for non-plastic solids present in the wastewater and, thereby, more accurately determine the presence of microplastics. Efficient separation and removal of microplastics from wastewater effluent is performed by a specialized capture net apparatus having multiple sized mesh components and optional diffuser devices which perform size exclusion filtration of microplastics from the water. In an exemplary embodiment, the methods generally include diverting treated wastewater effluent from a wastewater treatment facility's main line into a wastewater sampling mechanism via an intake pipe, and then into a solids monitoring and separation mechanism which includes the specialized capture net apparatus.
