Methods for isolating pancreatic islets
A microfluidic device can include an upstream passage, a sample passage, a bifurcating passage, and a combining passage. The upstream passage can be configured to provide a focusing stream. The sample passage can be configured to provide a sample stream. The bifurcating passage can include a specified bifurcating flow resistance. The combining passage can be configured to create a combined stream from the focusing stream and the sample stream, where the focusing stream can direct the sample stream away from the upstream passage and toward the bifurcating passage. A first portion of the combined stream can be discharged through the bifurcating passage. The main discharge can be configured to discharge a second portion of the combined stream. The main discharge can include a main discharge resistance that is selectable to vary the main discharge resistance relative to the bifurcating flow resistance.
PROCESS AND DEVICE FOR SEPARATING BIOLOGICAL PARTICLES CONTAINED IN A FLUID BY MEANS OF FILTRATION
The invention relates to a method of separating biological particles from the liquid containing same for purification, analysis and optionally diagnostic purposes. The inventive method comprises at least one step involving vertical filtration through a filter having a porosity that is adapted to the type of biological particles to be separated, such that said particles are retained by the filter. The invention is characterised in that: (i) the method involves the use of a filter comprising at least one basic filtration zone, whereby each basic filtration zone has a limited surface area; and (ii) the surface area of each basic filtration zone and the number of basic filtration zones are selected as a function of the type of liquid to be filtered, the type of biological particles to be separated and the volume of liquid to be filtered.
NANOPIPETTE APPARATUS FOR MANIPULATING CELLS
Disclosed herein are methods and systems for controlled ejection of desired material onto surfaces including in single cells using nanopipettes, as well as ejection onto and into cells. Some embodiments are directed to a method and system comprising nanopipettes combined with an xyz controller for depositing a user defined pattern on an arbitrary substrate for the purpose of controlled cell adhesion and growth. Alternate embodiments are directed to a method and system comprising nanopipettes combined with an xyz controller and electronic control of a voltage differential in a bore of the nanopipette electroosmotically injecting material into a cell in a high-throughput manner and with minimal damage to the cell. Yet other embodiments are directed to method and system comprising functionalized nanopipettes combined with scanning ion conductance microscopy for studying molecular interactions and detection of biomolecules inside a single living cell.
ANALYSIS DEVICE, ANALYSIS APPARATUS FOR IDENTIFICATION OF ANALYTES IN FLUIDS AND USE OF THE ANALYSIS DEVICE
An analysis device and an analysis apparatus for identification of analytes in fluids applying the SERS effect which provides a safe way to perform analysis, avoiding an accidental cross-contamination without the use of disinfectant products; the analysis device comprising a casing enclosing a sample region for receiving a fluid sample, and a nanoparticle region for storing at least a nanoparticle fluid; the sample region and the nanoparticle region being in fluid communication each other through a passage; driving means in fluid communication with the passage; a mixing region in fluid communication with the passage; and the casing being adapted to allow an incident monochromatic light from an external source to strike on the mixing region, and a reflected light from the mixing region to leave the casing.
Microfluidic Sensing
A device including a microfluidic channel structure formed on a substrate and including a first channel and a fluid actuator within the microfluidic channel structure. A sense region within the first channel is to receive a fluid flow of target biologic particles for counting in a single file pattern, with the sense region having a volume on a same order of magnitude as a volume of a single one of the target biologic particles.
MULTI-THREADED FLUID PARAMETER SIGNAL PROCESSING
A data receiver thread is continuously executed to receive in which signals indicating a fluid parameter. A predetermined time quantity of the signals is repeatedly buffered. Upon completion of the buffering of each predetermined time quantity of the signals, a data processing thread is initiated that executes on the just completed buffered predetermined time quantity of signals. Upon completion of each data processing thread, data from the just completed data processing thread is passed to a data plotting thread. Results of the data plotting thread are displayed on a portable electronic device while the data receiver thread is being executed.
FLUIDIC DEVICE, SYSTEM, AND METHOD
A fluidic device includes: a first flow path in which two or more solutions are mixed; and a second circulation flow path in which a solution mixed in the first flow path is circulated and which has a capture part configured to capture a sample substance included in the solution and/or a detection part configured to detect a sample substance included in the solution.
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR SAMPLE CHARACTERIZATION
Devices and methods for characterization of analyte mixtures are provided. Some methods described herein include performing enrichment steps on a device before expelling enriched analyte fractions from the device for subsequent analysis. Also included are devices for performing these enrichment steps.
SYSTEM, METHOD, AND MODULE FOR BIOMARKER DETECTION
