A histologic tissue sample support device includes a tissue cassette, a frame, and a lid. The tissue cassette has a recess including a body with at least one side wall and a bottom wall and is formed of material that can be successfully sectioned in a microtome and is resistant to degradation from solvents and chemicals used to fix, process and stain tissue. The tissue cassette is movably coupled to the frame by a frame-cassette connector. The lid is coupled to a peripheral portion of the frame by a lid-frame connector. The lid and the tissue cassette are capable of moving from a first position to a second position with respect to the frame, and in the second position the bottom wall and at least a portion of the side wall extend beyond a bottom edge of the frame for sectioning in a microtome.

The flow cell receiver can be configured to automatically align, secure, and retain a flow cell carrier containing a flow cell.
PREANALYTIC SYSTEM FOR PREPARING A LABORATORY SAMPLE CONTAINER
A preanalytic system is disclosed. The preanalytic system comprises a cap gripper configured to grip a cap of a laboratory sample container, wherein the cap is connected to a rod of a swab located within the laboratory sample container, wherein the cap gripper is further configured to release the cap from the laboratory sample container, and a cutting device configured to cut the rod of the swab when the cap is in a position released from the laboratory sample container.
TRANSFER STATION, INTERROGATION STATION, AND RELATED METHODS TO FACILITATE TRANSFER OF BIOLOGICAL SPECIMENS STORED AT CRYOGENIC CONDITIONS
A system and method facilitates transfers of specimen containers between a cryogenic freezer and a portable, bulk carrier. An interrogation station has a frame and a well that includes a bottom and at least one sidewall that extends upwardly from the bottom towards a top, wherein the bottom, the at least one sidewall, and the top collectively delineate an interior cavity of the well. The frame includes at least one opening that extends through the top so as to provide entry and access to the interior cavity of the well to receive buckets therein. The interrogation station further includes at least one array of antennas arranged within a plane and positioned beneath the bottom at a location in which the at least one array of antennas is aligned with the at least one opening along a vertical direction, which is perpendicular to the plane.
HISTOLOGY BATH AND SLIDE WARMING SYSTEM
A tissue processing station includes a housing and a first heated plate that is either disposed on or forms a first horizontally oriented surface of the housing. The first heated plate is configured to either (i) contain water, or (ii) receive a dish containing water. The tissue processing station may also include a vertically-oriented heated well for heating slides. A second heated plate is either disposed on or forms an angled surface of the housing for supporting one or more laboratory slides. The angled surface is angled relative to the first horizontally oriented surface. A third heated plate is either disposed on or forms a second horizontally oriented surface of the housing for supporting one or more laboratory slides. The first and second horizontally oriented surfaces are defined at different elevations on the housing. The angled surface extends between the two horizontally oriented surfaces.
METHODS, CARRIER ASSEMBLIES, AND SYSTEMS FOR IMAGING SAMPLES FOR BIOLOGICAL OR CHEMICAL ANALYSIS
Method includes positioning a first carrier assembly on a system stage. The carrier assembly includes a support frame having an inner frame edge that defines a window of the support frame. The first carrier assembly includes a first substrate that is positioned within the window and surrounded by the inner frame edge. The first substrate has a sample thereon. The method includes detecting optical signals from the sample of the first substrate. The method also includes replacing the first carrier assembly on the system stage with a second carrier assembly on the system stage. The second carrier assembly includes the support frame and an adapter plate held by the support frame. The second carrier assembly has a second substrate held by the adapter plate that has a sample thereon. The method also includes detecting optical signals from the sample of the second substrate.
METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR DETECTING GENETIC MATERIAL
This invention provides compositions and methods for detecting differences in copy number of a target polynucleotide. In some cases, the methods and compositions provided herein are useful for diagnosis of fetal genetic abnormalities, when the starting sample is maternal tissue (e.g., blood, plasma). The methods and materials described apply techniques for allowing detection of small, but statistically significant, differences in polynucleotide copy number.
METHOD FOR PERFORMING A MAGNETIC SEPARATION PROCEDURE
A method for performing a magnetic separation procedure that includes transporting a receptacle containing a fluid medium to a first location of a system, where the fluid medium contains both a sample material and a suspension of magnetically-responsive solid supports. At the first location, the fluid medium is exposed to a first magnetic field for a first dwell period, thereby isolating the solid supports within the receptacle, where no portion of the fluid medium is removed from the receptacle at the first location. The receptacle is then transported from the first location to a second location of the system, where the fluid medium is exposed to a second magnetic field for a second dwell period. Following the second dwell period, at least a portion of the fluid medium is removed from the receptacle. A suspension fluid is then dispensed into the receptacle, and the contents of the receptacle are agitated to suspend the solid supports within the suspension fluid.
SECTIONABLE CASSETTE AND EMBEDDING FRAME WITH CONNECTORS, AND METHODS FOR PREPARING BIOPSY TISSUE SAMPLES
A histologic tissue sample support device includes a tissue cassette, a frame, a lid, and a frame-cassette connector. The tissue cassette formed of a first material has a recess including a body with at least one side wall and a bottom wall and is formed of material that can be successfully sectioned in a microtome and is resistant to degradation from solvents and chemicals used to fix, process and stain tissue. The tissue cassette is movably coupled to the frame by a frame-cassette connector. The lid is coupled to the frame. The lid and the tissue cassette are capable of moving from a first position to a second position with respect to the frame, and in the second position the bottom wall and at least a portion of the side wall extend beyond a bottom edge of the frame for sectioning in a microtome.
