Methods involving oxygen plasma exposure to improve adhesion of silicate thermal coatings
A method of making a thermal control coating is provided. A primer layer can be applied to a substrate to form an exposed surface. The primer layer can include an epoxy binder and a silica filler. The exposed surface can be treated with an oxygen plasma to form a treated surface. A silicate-based thermal control coating can be applied to the treated surface, for example, by spraying, to form a thermal control coating on the substrate. Spacecraft and spacecraft hardware components coated with the thermal control coating, are also provided.
Method for coating a five-sided container with sag-resistant water-based coating compositions
The present invention provides a water-based coating and/or coating system used to form sag resistant wet layers or coatings on a wide range of substrates. The coating system is effective for protecting metal-containing substrates, such as intermodal cargo containers, against corrosion. As an overview, the present invention provides water-based compositions as primer coats on substrates, and methods for applying the same to substrates. The method includes steps of applying a water-based paint to the interior surfaces of a substrate and drying the substrate by continuously forcing heated air onto the substrate as it moves through a drying chamber. Desirably, the primer incorporates a high level of one or more CAS agents for excellent sag resistance while drying in a broad range of relative humidity environments. Alternatively, modifications can be made to control temperature and humidity during spray application and drying as a way to increase sag resistance of the coating.
Emblem for automobile and method of manufacturing the same
A method of manufacturing an automobile emblem is disclosed, which is for manufacturing an emblem that is to be disposed on a front surface of an automobile and represents a particular shape. A method of manufacturing an automobile emblem according to an embodiment of the invention can provide an automobile emblem that has a metallic texture and a silver luster without hindering the reception of waves for an automobile front radar.

Method of forming a multi-layer paint film
A multi-layer paint film satisfies paint film performance, such as water resistance, impact resistance and the like, required of an automobile paint film and which has excellent paint film appearance is obtained. The method comprises coating an aqueous first base paint (A) over an electrodeposited cured paint film to form a first base paint film, and then coating an aqueous second base paint (B) over the first base paint film without carrying out preliminary drying by heating after forming the first base paint film to form a second base paint film, preliminary drying by heating is carried out after forming the second base paint film, coating a single-liquid type clear paint (C) over the second base paint film to form a clear coat paint film. These three paint film layers are heated and cured at the same time.
Method for manufacturing sized carbon fibers for composite applications
Various embodiments directed towards methods of applying sizing to fibers are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, solvent can be used to dissolve a sizing material into a solution, which can then be used to coat the fibers. In some embodiments, a water bath is used to coagulate a sizing on the fiber surface and to remove the remove solvent after coating the fibers, so that water vapor can be created during a subsequent drying step as opposed to solvent vapors. In some embodiments, strong acids or strong bases can be used as the solvent.

Provided is an icephobic coating composition comprising an epoxy resin comprising poly(phenyl glycidyl ether)-co-formaldehyde and a curing agent; a fluoro-substituted poly(alkyl siloxane) resin; and a solvent mixture comprising a first solvent with Hansen solubility parameters of 14≤δ.sub.D≤17, 6≤δ.sub.P≤13, and 4≤δ.sub.H≤8; and a second solvent with Hansen solubility parameters of 16≤δ.sub.D≤19, 4≤δ.sub.P≤9, and 11≤δ.sub.H≤15. Further provided is a coated filter comprising a porous medium having an upstream surface and a downstream surface, in which at least the upstream surface has a coating formed from the coating composition. Coated articles and methods of forming coated articles and inhibiting ice formation also are described.
METHODS FOR MAKING PROPPANT COATINGS
A method for producing a coated proppant having an intermediate cross-linked terpolymer layer includes mixing a monomers solution including a first monomer, a second monomer that is different from the first monomer, a cross-linking agent, and an initiator. The proppant particle is combined with the monomers solution, and the monomer solution on the surface of the at least one proppant particle is polymerized to form at least one proppant particle having the intermediate cross-linked terpolymer layer on a surface of the at least one proppant particle. A resin solution including an epoxy resin, a curing agent, and graphene is mixed, and combined with the at least one proppant particle having the intermediate cross-linked terpolymer layer on a surface of the at least one proppant particle. The resin solution is cured to form the coated proppant comprising an intermediate cross-linked terpolymer layer.
COATED GRAIN ORIENTED ELECTRICAL STEEL PLATES, AND METHODS OF PRODUCING THE SAME
Coated grain oriented electrical steel plates and methods of producing the same are provided. In an exemplary embodiment, a method includes producing molten steel with from about 2.5 to about 4 weight percent silicon, from about 0.005 to about 0.1 weight percent carbon, and from about 90 to about 97.5 weight percent iron. The molten steel is cast into a slab and then cold rolled into a plate having a surface. The plate is decarbonized using a decarbonization anneal, and then recrystallized using a recrystallization anneal to produce grain oriented electrical steel. A coating is applied overlying the surface, where the coating includes an organic radiation curable crosslinking agent and a photo-initiator. The coating is cured by exposing it to a radiation source.
