METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A SPECIAL EFFECT PIGMENT USING AN EMULSION
A method of making pigments, such as special effect pigment includes forming a first slurry including a substrate, a polymer precursor, and a radical initiator; forming a solution including an emulsifier; and combining the first slurry and the solution so that the substrate is encapsulated by a first coating. Special effect pigments formed by the method are also disclosed.
Can inner surface coating method
A coating method includes a first step for spraying, onto an inner area of an opening part of a cylindrical body having a bottom and arranged horizontally, a first coating material of synthetic resin containing non-volatile components while rotating the cylindrical body around a central axis thereof. After the first step, a second step is performed for spraying, onto an inner area of a barrel part of the cylindrical body, a second coating material of synthetic resin containing a lower proportion of non-volatile components than that of the first coating material while continuing to rotate the cylindrical body. After the second step is performed and before the volatile components of the second coating material vaporizes, a third step is performed in which the rotation of the cylindrical body is stopped, the cylindrical body is placed vertically, and the volatile components of the second coating material are vaporized.
Coated oilfield operational components and methods for protecting and extending the service life of oilfield operational components
Coating compositions for coating an oilfield operational component, and related methods, may include in some aspects a coating composition having a trifunctional silane, a silanol, and a filler. The coating composition may be applied to a surface of the oilfield operational component that is configured to be exposed to a fluid. The coating composition may be applied to at least partially cover or coat the surface. The coating composition may be configured to chemically bond with a cured primer composition that includes an epoxy.

CORROSION PROTECTION FOR METALLIC SUBSTRATES
A tiecoat coating composition for use in a coating system for a metallic substrate comprising at least three coating layers is disclosed. The system has a primer coating layer which overlies the metallic substrate, a tiecoat coating layer which overlies the primer coating layer, and a finish coating layer which overlies the tiecoat coating layer. The primer coating layer is formed from a primer composition, the tiecoat coating layer is formed from a tiecoat composition, and the finish coating layer is formed from a finish composition. The primer composition comprises a primer carrier medium and a primer corrosion inhibitor in which the primer inhibitor has a galvanic cathodic mechanism. The finish composition is formulated to give a predetermined surface texture and appearance. The tiecoat composition comprises a tiecoat carrier medium and a tiecoat corrosion inhibitor. The tiecoat corrosion inhibitor has a barrier mechanism.
Process for Spray-Applying a Non-Aqueous Two-Component Filler Coating Composition onto a Substrate
The invention relates to a process for hot-spraying a non-aqueous two-component filler coating composition comprising a binder component (A) and a curing component (B) onto a substrate wherein binder component (A) comprises an epoxy resin and curing component (B) comprises a curing agent for curing the epoxy resin and wherein the filler coating composition comprises in the range of from 15 to 35 wt % hollow glass microspheres having an average density in the range of from 0.23 to 0.70 g/cm.sup.3 and a mean particle size of at most 52 μm, in the range of from 0 to 15 wt % inorganic solid material other than hollow glass microspheres, and in the range of from 0 to 20 wt % organic solvent.
Wear-resistant coating
A method of forming a wear-resistant coating on an article includes depositing a chromium coating on a substrate of the article, and subsequently heating the coated article to enhance a plurality of through-cracks within the chromium coating. The method further includes applying a liquid filler material to the coated article such that at least one of the plurality of through-cracks is at least partially occupied by the filler material, and solidifying the liquid filler material.
Nanovoided tunable birefringence
A form birefringent optical element includes a structured layer and a dielectric environment disposed over the structured layer. At least one of the structured layer and the dielectric environment includes a nanovoided polymer, the nanovoided polymer having a first refractive index in an unactuated state and a second refractive index different than the first refractive index in an actuated state. Actuation of the nanovoided polymer can be used to reversibly control the form birefringence of the optical element. Various other apparatuses, systems, materials, and methods are also disclosed.
