Expanding tool and method
A tool including a front housing and an expander head ring that is readily attachable and detachable from the front housing. The front housing may be coupled to the tool body, or can be integral with the tool body. The front housing may have a mating end that has one or more locking tabs that are configured to be engaged by the expander head ring. The expander head ring may carry one or more functional elements such as a die set that may be expanded by insertion of an expander extending from the tool such as by manual actuation of the tool. A plurality of expander head rings, each with a different size die set, can be alternatively attached to the front housing, depending on the desired extent of expanding of the pipe or the like with the tool.

EXTRUDED MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
An extruded material includes a peripheral wall having a closed loop-shaped cross-section and defining a hollow, and a middle rib connected to an inner peripheral surface of the peripheral wall and dividing the hollow. The extruded material is provided with a corrected portion set at a predetermined portion in a longitudinal direction and subjected to correction processing, and an uncorrected portion not subjected to the correction processing. The peripheral wall is expanded outward with respect to an original shape of the uncorrected portion in the corrected portion. While the middle rib is curved with respect to an imaginary straight line connecting connecting portions connected with the peripheral wall at both end portions of the middle rib in the uncorrected portion, the middle rib has a smaller degree of curvature than the original shape of the uncorrected portion in the corrected portion.

EXTRUSION OF METAL MATERIAL USING A DUMMY BLOCK HAVING A CURVED SURFACE
Various embodiments provide for an extrusion device with a dummy block having a curved surface configured to change the shape and length of charge welds between extrudates originating from different billets in order to reduce the amount of scrap and waste material. In an embodiment, the dummy block, which forces the billet of material through the die, can have a concave front surface such that the material, as it is extruded through the die, forms a solid-state weld that is shorter than a flat faced dummy block. In another embodiment, the dummy block can have a convex front surface such that the material, as it is extruded through the die, forms a solid-state weld that is longer than a weld due to a flat faced dummy block. In other embodiments, billets with non-flat ends can also be used.

Impact extrusion method, tooling and product
A hollow preform impact extruded from a metal billet to produce a progressing wall at a transition wall thickness. An axially forward portion of the progressing wall is ironed by extrusion past an extrusion point to form a sidewall portion of a lesser thickness. Extruding is stopped while some of the billet remains to form the closed bottom end. The preform has a bottom portion, a sidewall portion and a transition wall portion extending between the bottom portion and the sidewall portion. The transition wall portion is thicker than the sidewall portion and can be formed into at least part of the rim of an expansion shaped container. An impact extrusion punch has a central axis, an axially forward, impact surface for impacting metal to be extruded, a transition region for directing material displaced by the impact surface and a rear extrusion point for ironing material extruded past the transition region.

Dummy block for extrusion press
A dummy block for a metal extrusion press comprises: a generally cylindrical base having a forward surface and an outwardly extending circumferential flange; an expandable collar coupled to the base, the collar having an inwardly extending circumferential rib abutting the circumferential flange; a collar support coupled to the base and abutting the collar; and a moveable plunger coupled to the base and accommodated by the collar. The plunger has a rear surface configured to abut the forward surface of the base.
