Lighting device, luminaire and manufacturing method
A lighting device (10) is disclosed comprising a glass housing (20) delimiting an optical chamber (21), wherein at least one solid state lighting (SSL) element (30) is mounted within the optical chamber. The optical chamber (21) further comprises a light exit window (50) mounted in an aperture (23) of the optical chamber opposite the at least one solid state lighting element, the light exit window comprising a sealing plate sealed to the glass housing by a glass seal (51); and a light-transmissive thermal barrier (40) extending across the optical chamber in between the sealing plate and the at least one solid state lighting element, which protects the at least one SSL element (30) from thermal damage during the formation of the glass seal (51). Also disclosed are a luminaire including such a lighting device and a method of manufacturing such a lighting device.
Egg grasp device having interlaced members, and associated systems and methods
An egg grasp device is provided. Such a device includes a body and a plurality of elongated members extending from the body. The elongated members are interlaced to form a sheath capable of retaining an egg. The sheath has a distal end and a proximal end at which the elongated members are operably engaged with the body. The elongated members cooperate to define an opening at the distal end through which an egg is received when the elongated members engage and deflect about an egg such that the egg is seated within the sheath. Associated systems and methods are also provided.
GEL DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR TREATING POULTRY
The present invention is directed to a method of treating poultry hatchlings in a hatchling tray. The method comprises of providing a soft gel form capable of being dispensed through a spray nozzle, providing a spray dispensing apparatus, the apparatus being capable of delivering a predetermined volume of the gel as a plurality of small beadlets through a plurality of nozzles, placing the hatchling tray containing the hatchlings beneath the nozzles of the dispensing apparatus, dispensing the predetermined volume of the soft gel containing the therapeutic agent as small beadlets into the hatchling tray and allowing the hatchlings to consume the beadlets. The present invention is also directed to a dispensing apparatus for dispensing a therapeutic agent in a soft gel into a hatchling tray of poultry hatchlings.

REDUCED WEIGHT LIVE POULTRY HAULING SYSTEM
A reduced-weight poultry cage is used in conjunction with a reduced-weight trailer to transport live poultry for maximizing the poundage of poultry being transported while reducing the number of trips and fuel expenses. The poultry cage includes a combination of aluminum and plastic elements that reduce cage weight, provide for nesting of cages in stacks as well as easy replacement of failed parts. Furthermore, a drop-deck aluminum trailer with a reduced floor and guide rail alignment stops allows for a durable yet lightweight trailer that can haul a plurality of stacks of these poultry cages, thereby maximizing cubic feet availability while being compliant with various road and bridge laws.

Apparatus for harvesting egg fluid, and associated method
A harvesting apparatus adapted to harvest egg fluid from an avian egg is provided. Such an apparatus includes a frame. A harvesting assembly is operably engaged with the frame. The harvesting assembly includes a plurality of nozzles configured to remove egg fluid from an egg. The nozzles are configured to rotate from a vertically off-axis angled position toward a vertical position. A suction assembly is in fluid communication with the nozzles for harvesting egg fluid from an egg. An associated method is also provided.
Pheromone composition
To produce chicks from hatching eggs, the eggs are incubated in a hatcher incubator. After hatching, chicks of lesser quality are screened out, and the remaining chicks are transferred to a poultry barn. During the first week in the barn, a number of chicks are lost. When the loss rate exceeds a certain value, treatment with antibiotics is usually applied. Methods and compositions for reducing the loss rate during the first week and thus the number of antibiotic treatments are disclosed. The methods include providing in the air of the hatcher incubator at least during a final stage of the incubation and hatching of the eggs in the hatcher incubator, an active amount of a pheromone composition with the appeasing effect of the mother hen pheromone. The pheromone composition can be applied in the hatcher incubator at a specific height in the form of a formulation.
Egg tray for supporting eggs in an incubation chamber
Egg tray (1) for supporting eggs in an incubation chamber, the egg tray comprising a first grid (10) extending in a bottom plane (P), the first grid comprising one or more adjacent rows with slanted ribs extending from one side of the row to the other to form a plurality of adjacent openings (13), wherein an opening (13) defines an egg accommodation, wherein the ribs are configured for contacting an egg at a middle part (14) of the ribs between two rib ends in order to support an egg in the egg accommodation.
Automatic system and method for injecting a substance into an animal
A system and method for automatically delivering a substance to an animal or fish including a positioning system that positions each animal singularly and a sensor that detects the location of a predetermined targeted area on the animal. The system further includes a delivery device for delivering a substance to the targeted area. The position of the delivery device may be adjustable. The delivery device is in communication with the sensor. The delivery device adjusts its position in response to the data received from the sensor and delivers a substance to the targeted area.
