Steering a drill bit with a rotary valve
A rotary valve can include a housing, a manifold with multiple flow paths can be fixedly mounted to the housing. A rotary actuator with a first surface can be rotatably mounted within the housing, and a valve seat with a second surface can be fixedly attached to the manifold, where the second surface can sealingly engage the first surface. The rotary actuator can include a gap that selectively aligns with respective ones of valve seat ports as the rotary actuator rotates relative to the valve seat, thereby selectively pressurizing one or more actuators. A system and method can include a rotary valve that selectively causes pads to extend at a predetermined orientation in the wellbore to steer a drill bit. The azimuthal orientation of a rotary actuator of the valve can determine which pads are extended and which are retracted as the drill bit rotates.
Current feeding device for wire electrical discharge machining
The present invention is directed to a current feeding device for the supply of electrical current to a wire electrode traveling in an electro-erosion machine during the machining operation. The current feeding device comprising: a rotary electrically conductive body which is in contact with the wire electrode; at least one bearing for supporting the rotary electrically conductive body at one side; and a brush for electrically contacting the rotary electrically conductive body and for supporting the rotary electrically conductive body at the other side of the body and opposite side to the bearing. The brush is at the rotary axis of the rotary electrically conductive body.
Method of manufacturing socket punches
A method of manufacturing a punch, such as a socket punch, using wire EDM with at least six steps. The method involves forming a blank, holding the blank with an adapter, machining grooves in the blank, manufacturing a side relief of a working portion using wire EDM, milling the working portion to a final size, and forming a cone point on the end of the working portion. The method allows the punch to be manufactured more quickly and from a CAD model, therefore removing the need for over-specialized equipment and improving manufacturing times.
ELECTRO-DISCHARGE MACHINING
A method is provided for removing a fastener having a longitudinal shank from a workpiece using electro-discharge machining, EDM, the method comprising: contacting a portion of the fastener or workpiece with an EDM fixture, thereby: locating the EDM fixture and an EDM electrode relative to the fastener in a lateral direction; and establishing an electrical ground connection to the fastener via the EDM fixture; and eroding the fastener using the EDM electrode.

A METHOD AND AN APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING A COIL FOR ELECTRIC APPARATUS
A method for producing a coil for electric apparatus of the present invention is the method for producing a coil for electric apparatus for cutting spirally a block-shaped workpiece formed with a cylindrical portion corresponding to the coil in a circumferential direction of the cylindrical portion, the spiral coil is formed by turning a cutting means while moving it relatively to the workpiece from a part corresponding to one end of the coil to a part corresponding the other end of the coil along a machining line spirally set in the circumferential direction of the cylindrical portion. According to the invention, since the coil is formed by cutting the continuous cutting machining plane without generating a step in design from the block-shaped workpiece formed with a cylindrical portion corresponding to the coil using a wire-tool etc., it is possible to constitute a high-quality coil.
Machine and method for spark erosion machining of a gerotor pump
A spark erosion machine includes a frame with a space for spark erosion of a workpiece, a wire for cutting by spark erosion, and a wire guide head for guiding the wire across the workpiece, so as to detach an offcut from it; an offcut support mounted movably relative to the guide head, the support being configured to move at least between a retention position under the spark erosion space, where it can collect the offcut, and a retracted position; and an offcut extractor.
Wire electrical discharge machine and control method for wire electrical discharge machine
A wire electrical discharge machine machines a workpiece so as to have different machined shapes on a top surface and a bottom surface of the workpiece. The wire electrical discharge machine includes: a distance measuring sensor for moving within a machining area of the wire electrical discharge machine and measuring a distance between the distance measuring sensor and an object to be measured; and a vertical position calculating unit for calculating a distance between a reference surface and the top surface and a distance between the reference surface and the bottom surface, from a distance between the reference surface and the distance measuring sensor, a distance between the top surface and the distance measuring sensor, and a distance between the bottom surface and the distance measuring sensor, measured by the distance measuring sensor.
Advanced herringbone gear design
A herringbone gear includes a cylindrical body having a circumferential face having a width. A first helical gear tooth on the circumferential face has a first configuration, a second helical gear tooth on the circumferential face has a second configuration, and a transition on the circumferential face extends between the first helical gear tooth and the second helical gear tooth. An involute form taken within a transverse plane of the circumferential face remains constant over the width.
SOCKET PUNCHES
A punch, such as a socket punch, with an angle on a portion of the punch and method of manufacturing a punch with an angle on a portion of the punch using wire EDM. A punch for a cold forming process includes a base portion adapted to be a structural backbone for the punch and a work portion extending from the base portion that performs a punching operation. In addition, grooves and a hex portion are formed in the working portion with an electric discharge machining (EDM) machine. Further, a cone point is machined on an end of the hex portion and a land area with an inwardly tapered angle formed between the hex portion and the cone point. The punch can be manufactured more quickly and from a CAD model, therefore removing the need for over-specialized equipment and improving manufacturing times.
