Systems, methods, and apparatus are provided for assembling a wing. Methods include coupling a robot arm to a bracket on a rib held against a wing panel, and operating the coupled robot arm to install shims between the rib and wing panel. Some methods further include mounting (e.g. detachably) the bracket, such as by aligning it with indexing features at the rib. In some methods, the bracket enforces a contour to the rib. Systems include a carriage coupled to a rib, and a robot arm extending therefrom that is operable to perform work (e.g. inspection, installing shims and/or fasteners, etc.) at an interface between the rib and a wing panel. Apparatus includes a robot arm dimensioned for placement at an interface between a rib and a wing panel, with the robot arm including an end effector to perform work upon the interface (e.g. inspection, installing shims and/or fasteners, etc.).

Automatically guided tools

A position correcting system, method and tool for guiding a tool during its use based on its location relative to the material being worked on. Provided is a system and tool which uses its auto correcting technology to precisely rout or cut material. The invention provides a camera which is used to track the visual features of the surface of the material being cut to build a map and locate an image on that map used to reference the location of the tool for auto-correction of the cutting path.

The ramp guard includes a ramped surface, and the ring guard at least partially overlaps the tool slide assembly to prevent the formation of a pinch point between the tripper pin tower and the tool slide assembly. Remote lathe control systems include an operator pendant configured to enable remote operation of a portable lathe and a control tether extending from the operator pendant. In some examples, a portable lathe assembly kit includes a portable lathe in combination with a lathe guard system and/or a remote lathe control system.

A milling device for machining a slot into an inner surface of a casing for a gas turbine engine. The milling device includes a frame assembly including multiple structural guides configured to engage structural features on the inner surface of the casing to maintain an axial position of the milling device relative to a longitudinal axis of the casing. The milling device also includes a milling cutter coupled to the frame assembly. The milling device is configured to be displaced in a circumferential direction relative to the longitudinal axis to machine the slot, via the milling cutter, along the inner surface of the casing in the circumferential direction.

A method for repairing a discharge ring of a hydraulic turbine with a turbine runner in place includes: mounting adjustable fixtures to runner blades that are approximately evenly spaced around the turbine runner, where each adjustable fixture is mounted to a different runner blade at a different predetermined vertical position with respect to a surface of the discharge ring; attaching cutting equipment configured to remove material from the discharge ring to each adjustable fixture installed on the runner blades; installing a drive unit configured to rotate the turbine runner; controlling the drive unit to rotate the runner at a specified speed; and controlling the cutting equipment attached to each adjustable fixture to concurrently remove material from the discharge ring as the turbine runner rotates.

In one example, an on-wing method for in-situ cutting on a wing-to-fuselage attachment includes attaching a first mount plate having a first linear bearing to provide movement in a first linear direction relative to the first mount plate, attaching a second mount plate having a second linear bearing to provide movement in a second linear direction relative to the second mount plate, attaching a tool mounting member to the second linear bearing to move with the second linear bearing, attaching a cutter to the tool mounting member to be adjustable relative to the second linear bearing, adjusting a depth position of a cut to be made on the wing-to-fuselage attachment, adjusting a width position of the cut, and moving the tool along a length direction of the cut to make the cut on the wing-to-fuselage attachment along the length direction at the adjusted depth position and the adjusted width position.
