Method and apparatus for mixing
An apparatus and method for mixing a liquid having particulate includes a vessel for containing me liquid an axial impeller rotating about a substantially vertical axis. The impeller is adapted for submerging below the liquid surface by a distance approximately one-quarter to one-half of the height of the liquid. The impeller is oriented upwardly to produce (a) an inner, upward flow region located along the vertical axis of the vessel, (b) a transition flow region above the impeller in which liquid moves radially outwardly toward the vessel sidewall, and (c) an outer, downward flow region located along the sidewall. The impeller spins at a variable speed, such that the flow is capable of entraining solid particles having a settling velocity of up to approximately 1 foot per minute in the liquid, and the speed of the impeller is chosen to enable particles having a desired settling velocity to settle to the vessel bottom.
Container and blade arrangement for food preparation appliance
A food preparation appliance has a base, a blade member rotatable in a direction of rotation, and a container with a closed bottom, an open top and a tubular sidewall together defining an interior space of the container. The top of the container is configured for releasable connection with the base, with the blade member disposed within the interior space of the container. The sidewall has a rib projecting inward of the interior space of the container and extending lengthwise along at least a portion of the sidewall from the top of the container toward the bottom of the container. The rib has, in the direction of rotation of the blade member, a peak defined as the shortest transverse dimension measured from the center of the container to the sidewall at a respective height along the portion of the sidewall having the rib, the rib being asymmetric in transverse cross-section.
Jar with integrated stirring device
A jar or other storage container with an integrated stirring device, where the contents of the jar or storage container can be stirred and mixed together without having to completely open the jar or storage container. The core components in one embodiment are a top portion that contains external threads, a lid portion which contains internal threads, a spindle with an etched self-reversing screw pattern, a hub, one or more stirring blades, and a nut. The stirring blades have one end attached at a hub that is free to rotate on the spindle, the other end is attached to a nut that can travel up and down the self-reversing screw pattern, and the spindle is fixed to the lid portion. The surface area of the stirring blade(s) can be changed to accommodate different thicknesses and viscosities of different fluids and semi-fluids placed in the storage container.
Drive shaft locking cap and related mixing system and method
A mixing system includes a housing having a motor mount rotatably coupled thereto, the motor mount having a passage extending therethrough. A drive shaft is removably positioned within the passage of the motor mount. A cap includes a main body removably coupled to the motor mount and an actuator coupled to the main body so as to be pivotable between a first position and a second position with respect to the main body. The actuator producing a camming action when the actuator is pivoted such that when the actuator is in the first position, the actuator pushes the drive shaft against the motor mount so that the main body is locked to the motor mount and so that rotation of the motor mount causes rotation of the drive shaft and when the actuator is in the second position, the actuator is disengaged from the drive shaft and the cap is removable from the motor mount.
Automated analyzer and method for lifting and lowering rod-like member in automated analyzer
An automated analyzer includes a rod-like member 12a, a driving portion 12c, and a control mechanism 30. The driving portion 12c lifts and lowers the rod-like member 12a a direction of being inserted into and removed from the container 24. The control mechanism 30 controls the driving portion 12c so that the rod-like member 12a is lifted after being lowered so that a tip portion of the rod-like member 12a reaches a first position in the liquid L, and at a time when the rod-like member 12a reaches a second position where the tip portion is not separated from the liquid, an upward motion of the rod-like member 12a is stopped for a given period of time to reduce liquid film adhering to the rod-like member.
