Shaped abrasive particles, methods of making, and abrasive articles including the same
A method of making abrasive particles includes: providing a slurry comprising non-colloidal solid particles and a liquid vehicle; forming at least a portion of the slurry into shaped bodies contacting a substrate; at least partially drying the shaped bodies to provide shaped abrasive precursor particles; separating at least a portion of the shaped abrasive precursor particles from the substrate; and converting at least a portion of the shaped abrasive precursor particles into shaped abrasive particles. The shaped abrasive particles comprise alpha alumina having an average crystal grain size of 0.8 to 8 microns and an apparent density that is at least 92 percent of the true density. Each shaped abrasive particle has a respective surface comprising a plurality of smooth sides that form at least four vertexes. Shaped abrasive particles, abrasive articles including them, and methods of using are also disclosed.

FLEXIBLE ABRASIVE MEMBER HAVING ELONGATED DEPOSITS
A flexible abrasive member including a substrate, which carries an array of deposits with embedded abrasive particles, where each deposit has an elongated continuous structure that extends along a center trajectory predominantly in a longitudinal direction across the substrate. The structure has inset portions and recessed portions, which protrude oppositely along a transverse directions from the center trajectory. The inset portions of a deposit are accommodated in the recessed portions of a transversely preceding deposit, and the recessed portions of the deposit accommodate the inset portions of a transversely following deposit, so that the inset portions and recessed portions of neighboring deposits mutually overlap in said transverse directions.
Sanding element and method for manufacturing a sanding element
Disc-shaped sanding element (1) and method for manufacturing this sanding element (1) with a circular circumference with at least two layers (4,5,6) bonded to each other containing abrasive grains (11, 12), wherein these layers (4,5,6) extend at least to the circumference of the sanding element (1) in order to form a sanding edge (8) on this circumference (7), wherein each of these layers (4,5,6) has layer properties including compressibility, abrasive grain density, abrasive grain size and grain material. The layers (4,5,6) contain a three-dimensional thread or fibre structure in which said abrasive grains (11,12) are distributed, wherein adjacent layers (4,5,6) have at least one different layer property.
TETRAHEDRAL ABRASIVE PARTICLES IN ABRASIVE ARTICLES
Various embodiments disclosed relate to an abrasive article (10). The abrasive article (10 includes a backing (12) defining a major surface. The abrasive article (10) includes an abrasive layer including a plurality of tetrahedral abrasive particles (16) attached to the backing (12). The tetrahedral abrasive particles (16) include four faces joined by six edges terminating at four vertices (40, 42, 44, 46). Each one of the four faces contacts three of the four faces, and a major portion of the tetrahedral abrasive particles (16) have at least one of the vertices (40, 42, 44, 46) oriented in substantially a same direction.
Abrasive article
An abrasive article is provided which comprises a plurality of layers in the following order: a backing; an abrasive layer; a primer layer comprising clay particles, wherein the clay particles are agglomerated and form a layer; and a supersize coat comprising a metal salt of a long-chain fatty acid. The addition of the aforementioned primer layer can significantly reduce loading of swarf and improve both the cut and expected lifetime of the abrasive article.
LARGE DENIER NONWOVEN FIBER WEBS
Various embodiments disclosed relate to an abrasive article. The abrasive article includes a nonwoven web. The non-woven web includes a first irregular major surface and an opposite second irregular major surface. The nonwoven web further includes a fiber component comprising staple fibers having a linear density ranging from about 50 denier to about 2000 denier and a crimp index value ranging from about 15% to about 60%. The nonwoven web further includes a binder dispensed on the fiber component and abrasive particles dispersed throughout the nonwoven web.
Abrasive body
The invention relates to an abrasive body (6) for a grinding tool with an abrasive layer (8), which has at least one binding agent (12) and abrasive grains (13), characterised in that thermochromic colouring agents are provided in the abrasive layer (8). The invention relates further to a grinding tool (1) with an abrasive body (6) according to the invention and elements (5) for connecting the grinding tool (1) to a driving device for rotatingly driving the abrasive body (6). The invention relates further to a use of the abrasive body (6) according to the invention or of the grinding tool (1) according to the invention for treating human body parts.
