METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING TRACE AMOUNTS OF COPPER AND SILVER IN WATER
Disclosed is a real-time method for detecting copper and silver in water in parts per billion. Total silver is detected by adding a nitric acid solution to the sample; after the silver is digested, adding a buffer solution comprising water, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate and EDTA to the sample; adding an indicator comprising Cadion 2B, EtOH, and Triton X-100 to the sample; then reading the absorbance of the sample after light with an approximate target peak of 515 nm is sent through the sample; and determining the silver concentration by comparing the absorbance of the sample to the absorbances of known silver standards. Total copper is detected by adding a nitric acid solution to the sample; after the copper is digested, adding a buffer/indicator solution to the sample, where the solution comprises water, sodium citrate dihydrate, hydroxal amine hydrochloride and bathocuproine disulfonate; after one minute, reading the absorbance of the sample after light with an approximate target peak of 480 nm is sent through the sample; and determining the copper concentration by comparing the absorbance of the sample to the absorbances of known copper standards. A monitoring device for determining the level of copper or silver in a sample implements the disclosed methods.
Lightweight plastic container and preform
A plastic preform includes a hollow body portion including a closed base portion and a lower portion and a lower portion extending upwardly from the closed bottom portion; and a neck portion extending upwardly from the lower portion. The neck portion includes a dispensing opening positioned at a top of the neck portion, threads positioned below the dispensing opening, a tamper-evident formation having a lower surface and positioned directly below the threads, and a support flange having an upper surface and a lower surface and positioned below the tamper-evident formation. In an embodiment, the plastic preform is formed of a material comprising polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and a vertical distance from the lower surface of the tamper-evident formation to the lower surface of the support flange is from 0.125 to 0.150 inches. Containers and methods for molding preforms and making containers are also disclosed.
Panel with paint ready surface
In a preferred embodiment, a composite panel with a smooth outer surface, ready for painting with or without addition of primer, may be created by constructing a panel layup assembly upon a mold, the panel layup assembly including a composite panel having a core and a resin formulation, and a release film between the mold and the composite panel, where a smooth release surface of the release film is in contact with the composite panel upon construction; initiating curing of the composite panel at a first temperature within a lowermost ten percent of a curing temperature range of the resin formulation; continuing curing of the composite panel at a second temperature above the lowermost ten percent of the curing temperature range; and completing curing of the composite panel at a third temperature below the second temperature.
Cross-linkable thermoplastics, and processes of making and using same
The invention relates to cross-linkable thermoplastics, processes of making such cross-linkable thermoplastics and products comprising such cross-linkable thermoplastics. Such cross-linkable thermoplastics provide articles made by the additive manufacturing (AM) process with increased strength, the desired in use temperature stability and the desired thermo-oxidative stability.
Assembly and method for sealing a bundle of wires
A sealing assembly for sealing a bundle of wires includes a first sheet formed of a sealant material, a second sheet disposed above the first sheet, and a third sheet disposed above the second sheet formed of the sealant material. The second sheet includes a thermally conductive material. When the bundle of wires is overlaid on the assembly in a first direction, and the assembly is wrapped in a second direction that is generally perpendicular to the first to thereby surround the wires, the second sheet facilitates enhanced thermal energy distribution of applied heat throughout the assembly to thereby more uniformly melt the sealant material and thereby fill voids between the wires.
Three-dimensional printed objects infused with additive
Methods for forming a function-infused feed material for a three-dimensional printing technique, methods for manufacturing an additive-infused three-dimensional printed object, and vehicles including additive manufactured components are provided. An exemplary method for forming a function-infused feed material for a three-dimensional printing technique includes solubilizing a functional additive into a medium. Further, the method includes contacting a three-dimensional printing feed material with the medium to infuse the functional additive into the three-dimensional printing feed material to form the function-infused feed material.
Polishing pad, method for preparing the same, and chemical and mechanical polishing equipment
A method for preparing a polishing pad includes: preparing a polishing pad transition structure formed with a plurality of grooves, openings of the plurality of grooves being all located on a same side surface of the polishing pad transition structure; filling the plurality of grooves of the polishing pad transition structure with inorganic nanoparticles; pouring a mixture of a liquid polymer and a curing agent on the polishing pad transition structure, and evacuating air in the liquid polymer and the plurality of grooves; and placing the polishing pad transition structure in an environment at a temperature higher than or equal to a first temperature threshold, and the cured liquid polymer and the polishing pad transition structure constituting the polishing pad.
