Spears and spear guns incorporating the same
09719752 · 2017-08-01 · ·

A spear for use with a spear gun includes a hollow shaft having a leading end and a trailing end opposite the leading end, a piston retained in the hollow shaft and configured to slide within the hollow shaft, and a check valve. The piston forms a seal with an inner surface of the hollow shaft and divides the hollow shaft into a pre-charge chamber toward the leading end and a firing charge chamber toward the trailing end. The check valve is in fluid communication with the pre-charge chamber and is configured to permit a pressurized gas pre-charge to enter the pre-charge chamber and restrict the gas pre-charge in the pre-charge chamber from exiting the pre-charge chamber.

SYSTEMS, APPARATUS AND METHODS THAT ALLOW THE FORCES FROM ELASTIC ELEMENTS TO CREATE INWARD FORCES ON A BASE OBJECT SUCH AS A SPEARGUN STOCK, AND ALSO REDUCE REARWARD FORCES
20170205184 · 2017-07-20 ·

The current invention relates to systems, apparatus, and methods that allow the forces from elastic elements to create inward, rather than outward, forces, on a base object such as a speargun base or stock. The invention discloses systems, apparatus, and methods for attaching elastic elements (also called bands or power bands) onto the stock in a manner that reduces or eliminates undesirable outward and rearward forces on that stock. While applicable in many contexts, the invention is particularly useful as a way to attach elastic bands to a speargun.

BOWFISHING ARROW

A bowfishing arrow and method of bowfishing. The bowfishing arrow includes a shaft having a main stem. A locking pin is slidably movable within a bore of the main stem. A fish point with a pair of pivoting barbs is secured to the distal end of the main stem. An outer sleeve is longitudinally movable with respect to the main stem and the locking pin is engaged with the outer sleeve to move with the outer sleeve. The barbs pivot between a shooting position, a locked position, and an unlocked position. When in the locked position, an end of the locking pin is clamped between cams preventing the barbs from pivoting to toward the unlocked position and the shooting position until the fish is landed. A one-handed maneuver is all that is required to release the arrow from the fish after it is landed.

An electric powerhead device includes an elongated pole having a penetrating head that is positioned along the second end of the pole. The penetrating head includes a metallic and electrically conductive shaft, sharpened tip and barbs for engaging a target. A pair of electrodes are provided along the shaft and are connected to a power source within the pole. The power source includes a plurality of batteries that provide power to the device components. A power output unit amplifies and sends power to the electrodes based on a command from a user interface. The power output is adjustable via the user interface to either stun or dispatch a target. The pole is buoyant for being thrown into the water and delivers an electric shock upon detecting that the penetrating head has made contact with the target. A connector is provided on the pole and is secured to a rope.

Speargun sight and retention block
20250081950 · 2025-03-13 · ·

A speargun and speargun components are disclosed allowing for rapid reloading of the spear, and retaining the spear in the gun with an open track and retention mechanism. A spear retention mechanism is also disclosed, which may be integral with the speargun or interchangeable for different size spears. A phospholuminescent sighting track on one or both sides of the top of the speargun is also disclosed whereby the illuminated portion of the speargun provides a visual sight for a spear once inserted into the track. An interchangeable system of speargun retention mechanisms is also provided.

Fishing line reel with rapid line payout
09560840 · 2017-02-07 · ·

A reel for fishing line or the like provides for extremely rapid payout by releasing the line to unwind by sliding rapidly around a guide surrounding the line spool and by rotation of the line spool itself. A lever controls a line guide preventing sliding of the fishing line around the guide and providing controllable friction and locking of rotation of the line spool only when actuated by the user to permit retraction of the line or controlled tensioning of the line.
