A fishing rod has a hollow interior in which is secured a semi-rigid line. The semi-rigid line is secured to a durable rubber band which in turn is secured to an interior base of the fishing rod, adjacent the handle. The opposite end of the semi-rigid line comprises a braided portion having a plastic anchor. A strike on the fishing line is thus transmitted through the fishing rod directly to the handle thereof.

A strike indicator float or sinker is disclosed. The device preferably having a rigid insert having two opposing clamping sections. The sections are joined by a hinge, preferably a living hinge. The opposing sections have a tab that is configured to retain a free side of each opposing face in a clamped together position. Each opposing section has a internal face configured for positioning thereon a fishing line. The opposing surfaces form a generally flat section and recessed flat section that are configured for mating engagement. The flat sections are preferably configured with an overlayment of rubber or molded plastic to increase friction between a fishing line positioned in the opposing flat section. The flat sections provide for lateral adjustability of the fishing line relative to the center of the device. Two hemispheres are positioned on the opposite side of each opposing section from the clamping sections. The hemispheres can be made of a sinking or floating material, such as closed self-foam for flotation. Preferably the exterior hemispheres have weight reduction/aerodynamic features to increase the aerodynamics of the device as it is cast by a fisherperson.
