A modular component fishing rod system that allows the end user to easily and securely change one or more of the handle portion and rod blank. The system includes a rod blank, rod sleeve assembly and a slide-on handle assembly. The rod sleeve assembly performs at least three functions including: 1) truing up the taper of the fishing rod blank to allow components of the handle assembly to be slid onto the rod blank from the butt end; 2) providing an indexing or key feature which registers with the handle assembly to maintain proper alignment between the handle assembly and rod blank; and 3) providing a method to attach the handle assembly to the rod sleeve. The handle assembly includes a corresponding female sleeve that mates with and preferably slides over the rod sleeve assembly and performs at least three functions including: 1) attaching a handle tube which includes a handle grip and reel seat to a the rod sleeve assembly; 2) matching indexing features; and 3) fixing the handle assembly to the rod sleeve assembly through one of a number of possible fastener assemblies.

A fly rod including sensors and methods of using the same are provided, particularly where the sensors assist the user in casting or in logging data associated with fishing activities. In a described embodiment, the fly rod comprises: a handle portion that includes a butt end; a center shaft portion that extends from the handle portion; a tip portion that extends from the shaft portion and includes a tip; a first movement sensor disposed in the tip portion; and a second movement sensor spaced apart from the first sensor.

A tool for feeding a fishing line through the eyelets of a fishing rod has a loop of filament attached to an elongated guide and twisted across itself at a distal overlap to form a figure-eight with proximal and distal portions wider and narrower, respectively, than the eyelets. The wider portion facilitates insertion of a free end of the line into the loop. The loop is resiliently flexible so that the overlap separates and then recovers as the inserted line is passed transversely through the gap into the narrower portion of the figure-eight. The passed line is then transversely wedged in the narrower portion of the figure-eight. The loop is also resiliently flexible so that, as the guide leads the loop and the line through each eyelet, the wider portion of the loop compresses and then expands, inhibiting inadvertent withdrawal of the tool from an eyelet.

A method embodiment for forming the fishing rod can include forming a tube comprising a carbon sheet. The tube can be formed by rolling the carbon sheet around a rod template. The formed tube can comprise a proximal region and a distal region. The method can further comprise coupling an assembly. The assembly can comprise the tube and a reel seat. During coupling of the assembly, the reel seat can encompass a distal region of the tube. The assembly can be molded for structural integrity by applying heat to the assembly and allowing the assembly to cure.

A method embodiment for forming the fishing rod can include forming a tube comprising a carbon sheet. The tube can be formed by rolling the carbon sheet around a rod template. The formed tube can comprise a proximal region and a distal region. The method can further comprise coupling an assembly. The assembly can comprise the tube and a reel seat. During coupling of the assembly, the reel seat can encompass a distal region of the tube. The assembly can be molded for structural integrity by applying heat to the assembly and allowing the assembly to cure.

A fishing apparatus and a method for controlling the same. The fishing apparatus includes: a fishing rod having a reel and a motor connected with the reel; a brainwave collection unit arranged to collect a brainwave signal from a user of the fishing apparatus; and a control unit arranged to receive the brainwave signal collected by the brainwave collection unit. The apparatus generates a motor control signal according to the brainwave signal and transmits the motor control signal to the motor. The motor drives the reel to rotate under the control of the motor control signal. The fishing apparatus and the method for controlling the same as provided by the present disclosure are easy to use and labor-saving.
