METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FEEDING AN EDGER
An edger feeding apparatus and method of placing flitches in position to be fed into an edger with minimal spacing between successive flitches and with flitches oriented and the edger adjusted so as to yield a maximum value of lumber from each flitch. The edger feeding apparatus may include a scanning system for creating and storing a digital three-dimensional model of each flitch. The apparatus and method may also include a control computer and its use for determining the optimum position for feeding each flitch into the edger to produce the most valuable yield of lumber from the flitch.
SPLITTER PROFILER
In various embodiments, a splitter profiler apparatus may include at least one profiler head and at least one circular saw mounted to a common arbor. The circular saw may be mounted to a saw arm, and the saw arm may be coupled with an actuator that is selectively operable to move the circular saw along the arbor. The circular saw may be used in a profiling position, in which the circular saw and profiler head are in close proximity, such that the profiler head and circular saw function collectively to form a sideboard edge with a sawn finish. The circular saw may also be used in a splitting position, in which the circular saw is at a distance from the profiler, to divide the sideboard into narrower sideboards before the sideboards are sawn from the primary workpiece. Corresponding methods and systems are also described herein.
Self-powered timber slasher
Disclosed is a self-powered timber slasher. The self-powered timber slasher includes a self-propelled carrier and a powered circular saw mounted on a first end of the self-propelled carrier, wherein the powered circular saw is configured to cut timber. Further, a hydraulic motor coupled to the powered circular saw impart a rotational motion to the powered circular saw based on a flow of the hydraulic fluid that is stored with a hydraulic tank as the hydraulic motor is in fluid connection with the hydraulic tank. Yet further, the self-powered timber slasher a wireless controller electrically coupled to the powered circular saw. The wireless controller is configured to control operation of the powered circular saw based on a command received over a wireless communication channel.

A method for establishing a posteriori a match between a piece of wood and a log from which the piece of wood has been obtained, comprising the following operating steps of performing a tomographic scan of the wooden log, of calculating or selecting a log cutting pattern, of defining, starting with the tomographic information available, one or more virtual individualising characteristics which are linked to the distribution and/or size of physical characteristics of the log inside and/or on the surface of the self-same virtual piece of wood, of saving them in a database, together with information about the identity of the log, of dividing the log into real pieces of wood according to the cutting pattern, of acquiring real information about the distribution and/or size of physical characteristics of the log inside and/or on the surface of a real piece of wood and of defining corresponding real individualising characteristics to be compared with virtual individualising characteristics saved and of identifying an origin of the real piece of wood based on the information about the identity of the log which is saved together with the virtual individualising characteristics which match the real individualising characteristics.

A pulley system for transferring motor torque to a cutting blade assembly is provided. The system is installed on a log cutting machine. A motor of the log cutting machine is positioned on a support table, which is intended to raise and lower during operation. The cutting blade assembly includes a cutting blade member for cutting a log off a tree trunk. A chain is attached to a cutting blade member and the support table, such that when the cutting blade member is driven downward towards the tree trunk, the connected chain and support table are lowered assisting the actuation of the cutting blade member via the pulley system.

Method and calculating unit for curve sawing of a block in a cutting direction with at least a first circular saw blade. The method comprises determining a radius of the curve sawing, by measuring the curvature of the block in the direction of cutting; calculating a vertical inclination angle of the first circular saw blade in a vertical plane relative to the cutting direction in the block, based on the determined radius of the curve sawing; inclining the first circular saw blade with the calculated vertical inclination angle; and sawing the block in the cutting direction with the inclined first circular saw blade along the determined radius of the curve sawing.
