Systems and methods for adjusting moisture concentration of a veneer

Systems and methods for adjusting a moisture concentration of veneer are provided. In at least one specific embodiment, the method for adjusting a moisture concentration of a veneer can include estimating a moisture concentration of a veneer surface at one or more locations thereon. The method can also include comparing the one or more estimated locations to a minimum moisture concentration level. The method can also include moisturizing at least a portion of the one or more estimated locations that are below the minimum moisture concentration level to increase the moisture concentration thereof.

Filler for a Surface-Treatment Composition

The invention relates to a filler for a surface-treatment composition, the filler comprising particles which have a surface coating which gives the respective particle a positive surface charge, and to the use of a particle, which comprises a carrier particle and a surface coating which gives each particle a positive surface charge, for treating wood.

ULTRAVIOLET-C PHOTOCHEMISTRY FOR CUSTOMIZING AN APPEARANCE OF A WOOD PRODUCT

Ultraviolet-C (UVC) photochemistry for customizing an appearance of a wood product is described. In an implementation, a calculated amount of UVC radiation at a wavelength between 100-290 nanometers, for example, is applied to wood to achieve a desired appearance. The customized wood is free of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of stains, varnishes, and paints. The amount of UVC radiation to apply can be based on the tannin content of the wood or on other wood parameters or added photoactive agents. Photochemical interaction between the UVC radiation and various wood extracts, metal ion solutions, acids, bases, and oxidizers is also used to modify the color or lightness of a wood product. An example system includes multiple stations for programmatically spraying a wood product with various processing solutions, drying the wood, and irradiating the wood at one or more stages of the process with UVC radiation to interact with both the processing solutions and the wood surface, at programmed time intervals.

SUCCINATE DEHYDROGENASE INHIBITOR CONTAINING COMPOSITIONS

A composition containing succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor and a potentiator has been discovered to enhance the activity of the succinate dehydrogenase such that the amount of the succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor need to effectively treat a microbial substance can be reduced substantially. The compositions may be used as additives for paints and coatings, and protecting crops, seeds, wallboard, metal working fluids, wood from mold, fungi and other microbes.

A crosslinking polyvinyl acetate (XPVAc or X-PVAc) adhesive is applied as a primer (i.e., a basecoat) or an exterior coat (i.e., a top coat) on a wood preservation product which is mainly treated with a water-based preservative. By sealing the exterior wood surfaces, the new coating system not only effectively prevents the leaching of the preservative by bonding and chelating with the unfixed preservative compounds or complexes at the surface layer, but it also significantly reduces surface aging of wood, maintains effective preservation functions, and provides a longer service life to the wood preservation product.
