Disclosed herein are various systems, sub-system, and methods for the manufacture of a wall module for using in building a modular construction unit, e.g., for using in building residential homes, commercial offices, educational or service facilities, etc. using a substantially entirely automated modular construction technique. According to the disclosure herein, the resulting wall module includes an internal wall frame including wall studs attached between a top plate and a bottom plate, with, in some embodiment, one or more framing sub-assemblies attached therein to define openings through the wall module. The wall frame has suitable panel members the respective surfaces thereof corresponding to the interior and exterior surfaces of the modular construction unit. The wall frames, when completely assembled, can be transported to be assembled with other constituent components of the modular construction unit to complete the manufacture of the modular construction unit.

AUTOMATED SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TRUSS ASSEMBLIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF MODULAR BUILDINGS

Automated systems and methods of manufacturing truss elements for use in modular construction units can include stations, or steps, for forming angled webs, upright webs, and truss chords for use in the truss elements, transferring such angled webs, upright webs, and truss chords onto an assembly jig in a configuration corresponding to the truss element being manufactured, rigidly interconnecting, via nail plates, the angled webs, the upright webs, and the truss chords to form a finished truss element, and unloading the finished truss element from the assembly jig.

Coated multi-ply wood panel and method of producing a core board
20190375128 · 2019-12-12 ·

A method of producing a core board suitable for a coated multi-ply wood panel, as well as a coated multi-ply wood panel. The method comprises the steps of providing a wood based material in the form of a plurality of layers and an adhesive suitable for bonding the layers to each other; the layers of the wood based material and the adhesive being arranged in alternating order to form a stack, the stack having two opposite faces formed by a wood based layer. On at least one of the faces of the stack there is further provided adhesive and fibrillated fibers to form a modified stack which is pressed by one-step pressing to form a multi-ply wood panel having a facing coated with a layer of fibrillated fibers. The even and smooth surface of the core panel makes it particular suitable for coating with, e.g., glossy films.

Methods and systems for fastening bed foundations

A fastening system includes a carriage moveably mounted to a frame between first and second positions extensive with and beyond a fixture. The fixture is horizontally movably mounted in the frame to receive components to be fastened of differing sizes, with slide bars vertically moveably mounted relative to the fixture and simultaneously horizontally movable with the fixture. Adjustable spacers, in the form of a body having different extents or telescopic pillars, are positioned in the frame to abut with the components received in the fixture. Wheels rotatably mounted to first and second platforms of the carriage are received in U-shaped channels of the frame, with the first and second platforms being moved by endless belts clamped thereto. Nail guns are movably mounted between vertical posts of the platforms and include a plunger which is biased against a drum carrying a belt of fasteners and include a flat board tangential to a roller having a V-shaped circumferential groove receiving the heads of nails. The slide bars are movable relative to the fixture by pivoting first and second links which are pivotably connected to each other.

AUTOMATED SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR FLOOR AND CEILING UNITS IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF MODULAR BUILDING UNITS

A system and method for assembling framing assemblies for use as ceiling or floor structures of modular building units using automation are disclosed. The framing assemblies include trusses that are attached at the lateral edges thereof by a joist including at least one layer of dimensional lumber to form a substantially rigid framework. Cover panels are positioned over and attached to an inner surface of the framing assembly.

Gluelam structural member and a method of producing such a gluelam structural member

The present disclosure provides a structural member (10), such as a beam, a stud or a joist, presenting a predetermined bending direction (B). The structural member comprises a plurality of glued-together wood lamellae (20a, 20b), each having a lamella cross section which is parallel with a cross section of the structural member (10) and a longitudinal direction which is parallel with a longitudinal direction of the structural member and with a principal grain direction of the wood lamellae (20a, 20b). In the structural member, the lamellae (20a, 20b) are formed as radial sections of a log and present cross sections which are triangular or trapezoidal and present a respective base surface (bs1) that is formed at a radially outer part of the log. The lamellae (20a, 20b) are arranged as at least one layer in which base surfaces (bs1) of a pair of immediately adjacent lamellae (20a, 20b) face opposite directions. The base surfaces (bs1) are perpendicular to the bending direction (B).

The component (100) according to the invention has a first wood element (110) with at least a first main fiber direction (114) and a second wood element (120) with at least a second main fiber direction (124). At the end, and spaced apart, the first wood element (110) is adhesively bonded, on a first side cutting through the first main fiber direction (114), to a first side (121) of the second wood element (120) cutting through the second main fiber direction (124).

Bamboo railroad tie manufacturing system

A system for crafting railroad crossties of compressed bamboo is described. The system employs a hydraulic press configured to effectively compress multiple stalks of bamboo into a strong unified beam within a mold. Bamboo is first mashed, dried, and treated. A resin is employed as a permanent adhesive, binding the stalks together. The bamboo is stacked within a mold and compressed under the pressure exerted by the hydraulic press. An oven is used to heat the compressed bamboo, and then the bamboo is cooled. The compressed bamboo beam may then be trimmed to remove excess bamboo, and is cut into crosstie segments if needed. The resulting crosstie is sturdy, ecologically friendly, and rapidly manufactured.
