HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE HAVING IMPROVED THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY
20230286234 · 2023-09-14 ·

A honeycomb structure having a core made up of a plurality of corrugated sheets which are superposed and adhesively bonded together is described. The corrugated sheets are made from a thermally insulating material. Bear filaments are made up of thermally conductive filaments. The honeycomb structure can be used when the ambient temperature exceeds, for example, 120° C.

Product with an array of core elements or voids and interposed sheets and methods for forming such a product

A panel (20) having opposite surfaces (22, 24), and including sheets (42, 43) and elongated cores or voids (40). The cores/voids extend parallel along a first direction (X), are arranged mutually adjacent in a second direction (Y), and include an outermost core/void (40a) along a panel edge (26). Each sheet includes a medial portion (44, 45) between two adjacent cores/voids, a first lateral portion (46, 47) folded away from the medial portion over one adjacent core/void, and towards the second direction along the first surface, and a second lateral portion (48, 49) folded away from the medial portion over another adjacent core/void, and towards a negative second direction (−Y) along the second surface. The sheets include an enveloping sheet (43), the first lateral portion (47) thereof extending into a folded lateral region (50, 52) that at the panel edge is folded around the outermost core/void, and extends in the negative second direction back towards the second surface.

INTEGRATED DIGITAL THREAD FOR ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF LIGHTWEIGHT STRUCTURES

A part formed by an additive manufacturing process consist of regions of voids, regions of solid material, and regions of non-uniform lattice cells, where each lattice cell includes bars. The regions are spatially distributed throughout the part as a function of load conditions such that the solid material is distributed in regions of first load paths and the non-uniform lattice cells are distributed in regions of second load paths lower in magnitude than the first load paths. Diameters of each bar of a non-uniform lattice cell are sized as a function of at least one of a resolution unit of the additive manufacturing process and part performance requirements. The diameters of the bars of the non-uniform lattice cells are classified into clusters with an average diameter size being assigned to all non-uniform lattice cells in the same cluster.

A fan track liner for a fan containment arrangement for a gas turbine includes a cellular impact structure and a supporting sub-laminate integrally formed with each other from fibre-reinforced material. The fan track liner further includes a ballistic barrier comprising a woven reinforcing fibre ply and a layer of reinforcing fibre felt. There is also disclosed an associated fan containment arrangement and a method of manufacturing a fan track liner.

Process for producing a sandwich component, core for a sandwich component, and sandwich component
11292224 · 2022-04-05 · ·

A process for producing a sandwich component. A first covering layer is formed on a molding surface of a molding tool; a core is produced by building up a cell structure having a multiplicity of cells in a thickness direction on the first covering layer via an additive production process; and a second covering layer is formed on a deposition surface of the core, the surface being situated on the opposite side from the first covering layer. A core for a sandwich component is furthermore described, as is a sandwich component.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING A TORSION BOX FOR A STRUCTURE OF AN AIRPLANE AND A TORSION BOX FOR A STRUCTURE OF AN AIRPLANE
20220080686 · 2022-03-17 ·

A method for producing a torsion box for a structure of an airplane. The method includes providing a first component made of a fiber composite material, the first component has a first planar base having a first inner side and a first outer side, first stiffening elements on the first inner side forming a composite with the first base. A second component is provided of a fiber composite material and has a second planar base having a second inner side and a second outer side. Second stiffening elements are on the second inner side and form a composite with the second base. The method includes superimposing the first component and the second component such that the first stiffening elements lie, at least in some areas, on the second inner side and the second stiffening elements lie, at least in some areas, on the first inner side. The methods includes connecting the first stiffening elements to the second base and connecting the second stiffening elements to the first base.

Honeycomb core with hierarchical cellular structure
11267212 · 2022-03-08 · ·

A hierarchical sandwich core in the form of a honeycomb, i.e. having repetitive and periodic lattice materials. The sandwich core can be made up of a macroscopic honeycomb structure with sandwich cell walls having a mesoscopic cellular core. The longitudinal axis of cells of the mesoscopic honeycomb cell can be perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cells of the macroscopic honeycomb structure. Alternatively, if a foam core is used having mesoscopic cells the shape of the mesoscopic cells can be made during the foaming process so that they are elongate in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cells of the macroscopic honeycomb structure.
