The shortcomings of the prior art are overcome and additional advantages are provided through a method for treatment of a crack in the wall of a hoof of an animal having hooves which includes providing at least first and second L-shaped brackets each having a generally planar base side and a substantially planar first flange disposed in substantially perpendicular relationship to said generally planar base followed by securing said first L-shaped bracket to the hoof of a hooved animal on one side of a quarter crack with the substantially planar first flange thereof facing the quarter crack; and securing said second L-shaped bracket to the hoof of the animal on one side of a quarter crack with the substantially planar first flange facing the quarter crack and in opposed relationship with respect to the substantially planar first flange of said first L-shaped clamp; and biasing said first and second flanges together to facilitate healing.

An equine accomodative hoof support (rocker shoe) system consisting of a tapered base that allows, in some embodiments, the equine hoof to roll forward or to the side, without unnecessary bending, thus allowing it to find a comfortable natural position to relieve stress on a sore, injured, or diseased hoof. The ability of the base to rock allows the equine to adjust its stance to find the most comfortable position, not unlike standing in a bed of sand. The system can replace expensive hoof treatment by a farrier and can easily be utilized directly by an equine practitioner or equine owner. Apparatus, systems and methods are provided for trimming a hoof of a horse. The apparatus is an adjustable cutting guide that includes a hoof band configured to extend around the hoof. The hoof band includes an identifier for aligning the hoof band with a mark on the hoof indicating a longitudinal axis of a leg of the horse and a cutting edge providing a cutting plane for a cutting tool. The cutting plane is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the leg of the horse. The cutting guide also includes a clamping structure for adjustably clamping the hoof band to the hoof at a user selectable, fixed position above a sole of the hoof when the hoof band is aligned with the mark. The systems include the cutting guide, a marking tool and an alignment tool.

Apparatus, systems and methods are provided for trimming a hoof of a horse. The apparatus is an adjustable cutting guide that includes a hoof band configured to extend around the hoof. An attachable hoof pick system includes a hoof pick, a saddle, and a fastening mechanism. The hoof pick that is used to clean the hoof of a hoofed animal such as a horse includes a pick section, a body section, and a plurality of attachment holes. The pick section is adjacently connected to the body section as the plurality of attachment holes is traverses through the body section. The fastening mechanism, preferably a twist stud system, is engaged with the plurality of attachment holes so that the body section can be removably mounted to an exterior surface of the saddle by the fastening mechanism. Resultantly, the hoof pick and the saddle are able to maintain a secured and unsecured configuration through the fastening mechanism.
