Described is a method for the preparation of an article, in particular a biodegradable article, from a thermoplastic composition comprising starch by thermoforming, comprising the steps of providing a sheet of the thermoplastic composition in rubber phase at a temperature of at least 100 C., stretching the sheet into or onto a mould, cooling the sheet to form the article, remove the article from the mould, wherein the mould in step b has a temperature of 5 C. or less, the sheet in step c is cooled to a temperature of 40 C. or less, steps b and c being performed in 10 s or less. Further, a thermoformed article, obtainable by the said method and the use of such an article is described.

BIODEGRADABLE MULTI-LAYER FILM

A multi-layer polymer film comprising at least one middle layer A, the polymeric constituents of which are soluble in aqueous solution, and in each case at least one substantially water-impermeable covering layer B, C arranged above and below the at least one middle layer A, wherein the layers A, B and C independently of each other in each case comprise at least one thermoplastic polymer and at least one of the covering layers B and C comprises at least one polyhydroxyalkanoate is presented and described. Processes for the production of the multi-layer polymer film according to the invention and its use for the production of molded parts, films or bags are furthermore presented and described.

Method for manufacturing molded article using food waste
10137611 · 2018-11-27 ·

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a molded article using food waste, in which food waste is dried, fractioned and ground, after which the processed food waste is mixed with purified water, a preservative, an aromatic agent and a binding agent comprising a food additive, and the mixture is poured into a fixing mold to be compression-molded into various shapes, e.g., cubes. The molded article can substitute for soaps which have been conventionally used for practicing carving so as to prevent resource waste and environmental contamination. The method for manufacturing a molded article using food waste enables a minimal addition of chemicals during molding so as to provide practice materials which are not harmful to the human body. Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing a molded article using food waste, in which cubes are manufactured by using food waste, the cubes are combined to form a big cube, and small cubes are sequentially removed from a big cube consisting of small cubes, thereby enabling a model to be modified at the users convenience.

Method of making animal litter

A litter and litter making method producing cat litter from a carbohydrate starch-containing cereal grain, e.g., corn, based admixture extruded from a single screw or twin screw extruder forming pellets having a clumping agent formed during extrusion composed at least in part of carbohydrate polymer binder. Each pellet is extruded under conditions that cause formation of carbohydrate polymer binder clumping agent at least some of which is water soluble. One preferred method of extruding cat litter causes starch dextrinization to occur such that at least some of the carbohydrate polymer binder clumping agent in each pellet is formed of dextrin. Each pellet can be coated such as with a smectite that preferably is bentonite. During use, pellet extrusion formed clumping agent in a pellet wetted with urine dissolves and flows in between and along adjacent pellets causing them to clump together without the presence of any clumping agent additive.

The present disclosure generally relates to films, such as multilayered films, that are suitable for use as stretch wraps, cling wraps and/or pallet wraps which according to some examples are compostable and/or biodegradable whilst maintaining stretch and cling properties. In particular, the films described herein comprise one or more film layers comprising a blend of starch-based thermoplastic resin and polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT). The present disclosure is also directed to processes for preparing the films described herein.

FIBER PRODUCTS HAVING TEMPERATURE CONTROL ADDITIVES
20180238049 · 2018-08-23 ·

A fiber product is described which includes fibers, a binder and a temperature control additive. The fiber product has properties that make it useful for a variety of applications. The fibers may be glass fibers and the product may be a fiberglass insulation product for use in buildings, vehicles, or other structures for acoustic and/or thermal insulation. The fibers may be cellulosic fibers and the product may be a wood board product. The temperature control additive is incorporated into the uncured fiber product to prevent deleterious self-heating during or after binder curing. The temperature control additive undergoes an endothermic process that consumes at least a portion of the energy generated during the exothermic curing reaction.

Multilayer Films

There is provided a multilayer film comprising a starch layer and at least one other layer. The multilayer film has excellent barrier properties. The starch layer comprises a modified starch having a degree of substitution less than 1.5. Suitable other layers include polyolefins. The multilayer film finds use in packaging, particularly in packaging foodstuffs.

Method and apparatus for sealing a web

A machine and method for making bags is described and includes a web traveling from an input section to a rotary drum, to an output section. The rotary drum includes at least one seal bar, having a sealing zone, and a weakening zone disposed within the single sealing zone. The single sealing zone may be a heated perforator, and may include a heating wire. The heating wire may be an NiCr wire stitched into holes in a cap or on the seal bar. Bushings may be disposed in the holes.
