Handheld arthropod detection device

Various embodiments include systems and methods of arthropod detection using an electronic arthropod detection device. The electronic arthropod detection device may scan a surface or a subject using a terahertz sensor that is sensitive to a terahertz band of electromagnetic radiation to detect the presence or likely presence of an arthropod in a region of interest (ROI). A camera sensitive to a visible band of electromagnetic radiation captures at least one image and provides the image(s) to an object detection model in response to determining that an arthropod is or is likely present in the ROI. A processor may initiate an arthropod detected procedure in response to detecting an arthropod in the ROI.

Insect Storage And Dispensing Systems

Insect storage and dispensing system are described. An example system may include a dispensing container including at least one wall defining an interior volume for retaining a plurality of adult insects. The system may also include a piston that extends through a first opening of the dispensing container so as to expose a top face of the piston to the interior volume. Longitudinal movement of the piston toward a second opening of the dispensing container may dispense a portion of the plurality of insects from the dispensing container when the plurality of insects is retained in the dispensing container.

Handheld arthropod detection device

Various embodiments include systems and methods of arthropod detection using an electronic arthropod detection device. The electronic arthropod detection device may scan a surface or a subject using one or both of a hyperspectral image sensor or a multispectral image sensor that is sensitive to multiple bands of electromagnetic radiation to detect the presence or likely presence of an arthropod in a region of interest (ROI). A camera sensitive to a visible band of electromagnetic radiation may be used to capture at least one image and provides the image(s) to an object detection model in response to determining that an arthropod is or is likely present in the ROI. Hyperspectral and/or multispectral images may be provided to the object detection model alone or in combination with visible light image(s). A processor may initiate an arthropod detected procedure in response to detecting an arthropod in the ROI.

An insect egress device for use with a window or door screen has a portal that is attached to the window screen with a portion of the portal extending through the screen from the inside to the outside. The portal may be provided with various insect attracting features and includes a flange, an extension extending outwardly from the flange surface that terminates at a free end, and an egress passage extending completely through the flange and the extension. The extension has a frusto-pyramidal shaped section and a second extension section that is generally straight and includes the free end. The egress passage has a first sidewall section of a tapering stair-step configuration and a second sidewall section that is not stair-step and is generally straight and terminates at the free end. In aspects, a phosphorescent material is disposed on the first sidewall section and visible through the egress passage from an interior position.

A crawling insect detection and protection system includes a curved member for attachment to a surface. The curved member has a coarse textured outer surface and a smooth interior surface, the interior surface includes a grooved upper lip located at a top portion of the curved member and a smooth lower lip located at a bottom portion of the curved member. The width of the grooved upper lip is recessed from the bottom lip to allow a crawling insect to fall into the lower lip portion. The system includes an attachment means which may be an adhesive fastener and/or a mechanical fastener for affixing a mounting surface of the flexible curved member to an attachment surface.

A SYSTEM FOR INSECT SURVEILLANCE AND TRACKING

A mosquito surveillance device includes one or more mosquito traps having a camera capable of taking images of mosquitos and transmitting the images electronically to a receiver. Suitable traps include an ovitrap, for example. Images may be transmitted from inside or outside the trap to a receiver using low bandwidth cellular phone networks. The images are processed and displayed using software forming mosquito data. The images may be analyzed and the number of live mosquitos identified, the number of dead mosquitos identified, the species of mosquitos identified, or mapped vector densities in real time identified preferably at high resolution.

Insect trap

An insect trap (100) and method for trapping and/or killing insects are disclosed. The insect trap comprises an enclosure (10) for receiving a human or an animal, and comprising an opening (12) configured to allow air to flow out of the enclosure and prevent insects from entering the enclosure, and a trapping unit (30) outside of the enclosure and in fluidic communication with the opening. The trapping unit comprises a heatable container (32) comprising either an adhesive material (31) for attracting and trapping an insect or a material comprising insecticide for killing an insect.
