WELDABLE THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITE COMPOSITES
The invention relates to the use of a low Tg compatible resin as an adhesive layer for the welding of a thermoplastic composite structure to a thermoplastic or thermoset structure. The invention is especially good for the welding of large parts, such as wind turbine halves and spar caps. A useful thermoplastic composite is one formed by the infusion and curing of long fibers by a reactive acrylic liquid resin system, such as ELIUM® resin systems from Arkema.

Method for manufacturing an article made of a polymerized material
Disclosed is a method for manufacturing an article made of a polymerized material including the steps of: —providing a vat of polymerizable material, transparent at least in the 400-800 nanometers wavelengths range, —irradiating the polymerizable material with a laser beam according to a predetermined pattern so as to polymerize the polymerizable material in order to form the article, the predetermined pattern being determined based on a three-dimension representation of the article with the positions in three dimensions of a plurality of volume units adapted to form together the article, the laser beam scanning the vat in three dimensions in order to be focused at each position of the volume units present in the predetermined pattern so as to initiate locally the polymerization of the polymerizable material at each of these positions.
LIGHT-TRANSMITTING DECORATED MOLDING ARTICLE AND METHOD OF FABRICATING THE SAME
A method of fabricating a decorated molding article includes forming an all-in-one coating on a substrate and performing a curing step, thereby forming a composite layer structure with a protective effect, a color effect, and a bonding effect. The composite layer structure may form a molded film with better physical properties (e.g., higher hardness, better protection effect, and the like) after the blister molding process. Therefore, the molded film of the embodiments may be applied to a laser engraving process to form a variety of light-transmitting decorated molding articles.
Prepregs and production of composite material using prepregs
A prepreg having at least one layer of fibres and a curable thermosetting resin system at least partly impregnating the at least one layer of fibres, wherein the curable thermosetting resin system includes a curable thermosetting resin including at least two epoxide groups, a curing agent that includes at least one amine group, and an accelerator that includes an azole group; wherein the curable thermosetting resin, the curing agent and the accelerator are provided in respective concentrations in the prepreg to provide that, after curing the thermosetting resin at a cure temperature of at least 140° C. for a period of from 1 to 6 minutes, (i) the cured thermosetting resin has a glass transition temperature Tg which is greater than the cure temperature and is within the range of from 150° C. to 180° C. and (ii) the cured thermosetting resin is at least 90% cured.
Curable compositions
Heterocyclic-functional resins, such as epoxides, oxetanes, cyclic carbonates, lactides and lactones, are used in radiation-curable formulations along with ethylenically unsaturated materials such as (meth)acrylates to achieve improved mechanical properties and/or lower shrinkage in the cured compositions prepared therefrom as compared to formulations containing the ethylenically unsaturated materials but no heterocyclic-functional resin. Polymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated metal complexes, such as Zn and Ca carboxylates prepared using unsaturated carboxylic acids or anhydrides, may be employed to effect thermal cure of the heterocyclic-functional resin component of such formulations, which are particularly useful in the production of 3D-printed articles and the like.
External component made of composite material and method for manufacturing the same
A method for manufacturing an external component for horology or jewellery made of a composite material including a reinforcement formed of a preferably perforated structure and a matrix composed of a synthetic material, the method including the successive steps consisting in: a) making a 3D file of the reinforcement, b) forming the reinforcement by additive manufacturing, c) embedding all or part of the reinforcement in the synthetic material. An external component for horology or jewellery can be made of a composite material including a matrix composed of a synthetic material and a reinforcement having a perforated structure obtained by additive manufacturing.
EMBEDDED POLYMERIC INSERT FOR INCREASED TOUGHNESS OF ADHESIVE BONDED JOINT
A bonded composite joint includes a first carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) panel; a second CFRP panel; a corrugated structure placed between the first and second CFRP panels; and an adhesive placed between the first and second CFRP panels and in contact with the corrugated structure. The corrugated structure has a shape defined by a given wavelength λ.
