Method of pouring polyisocyanurate foam directly onto a facer to improve cell orientation and density stratification
A method of forming a polyisocyanurate foam board includes providing a polyol and adding an isocyanate to the polyol to form a polyisocyanurate foam. A first inner surface of a first facer material is treated with a first flow of hydroxyl containing molecules. A second inner surface of a second facer material is treated with a second flow of hydroxyl containing molecules. The polyisocyanurate foam is coupled to the first treated inner surface and the second treated inner surface such that the polyisocyanurate is sandwiched between the first facer material and the second facer material, thereby exposing opposing outer surfaces of the polyisocyanurate foam to the hydroxyl containing molecules. A density of a medial portion of the polyisocyanurate foam is greater than a density of the polyisocyanurate at the opposing outer surfaces.
Robust multi-layer building construction tape and related framing members
Robust multi-purpose, multi-layer, building construction tapes and building construction framing members and related wall assemblies are disclosed that comprise a sheet metal framing member (all profiles) in combination with a new and more robust type of multi-layer building construction tape for fire safety and sound reduction. The multi-layer building construction tape comprises a flexible thermal barrier layer attached to (1) a flexible intumescent material layer having a lesser width (thereby enabling flex-lock rollover) and/or (2) a resilient unfoamed cross-linked polyethylene layer. In combination, the thermal barrier layer is on a surface of the sheet metal framing member, whereas the thermal barrier layer is attached to the intumescent layer or polyethylene layer (as the case may be) such that the thermal barrier layer is between the sheet metal framing member and the intumescent layer or the polyethylene layer. The multi-layer building construction tapes disclosed herein slow and impede the spread of fire and smoke (during a fire) and also reduces sound transmission between adjacent rooms in a building.
Energy-efficient window coatings transmissible to wireless communication signals and methods of fabricating thereof
Provided are novel energy-efficient signal-transparent window assemblies and methods of fabricating thereof. These window assemblies are specifically configured to allow selective penetration of electromagnetic wavelengths greater than 0.5 millimeters, representing current and future wireless signal spectrum. This signal penetration is provided while IR blocking properties are retained. Furthermore, the windows assemblies remain substantially transparent within the visible spectrum with no specific features detectable to the naked eye. This unique performance is achieved by patterning conductive layers such that the conductive layer edges remain protected during most fabrication steps and the fabrication. As such, the conductive layers are encapsulated and being separated from the environment while retaining separation between individual disjoined structures of these layers. For example, a barrier layer and/or a dielectric layer may extend over the conductive layer edge. The patterning is achieved by forming photoresist structures on the substrate and depositing a low-E stack over these photoresist structures.
RESIN COMPOSITIONS FOR OPTICAL FILMS
Compositions, laminates, films and/or composites made from thermoplastic polymers, such as thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) are described. The films have one or more optical layers made from materials that allow the transmission of visible light and reflect or absorb UV light. An optical film is made from one or more TPU resins including a first UV absorber of the benzotriazole family or the triazin family, a light stabilizer, and a second UV absorber selected from a group consisting of benzotriazoles, benzophenones, triazin or benzylidene malonate. The second UV absorber may be present in a base resin combined with the TPU resin. The optical film is capable of blocking at least 99% of light having a wavelength
MULTILAYER PULTRUDED STRUCTURE HAVING A CHEMICAL RESISTANT AND WEATHERABLE TOP LAYER
The invention relates to a multilayered pultruded structures having a weatherable cap layer over a pultruded substrate. The cap layer provides improved weatherability, chemical resistance and surface quality for pultruded structures. The cap layer is either an acrylic, vinyl or styrenic cap layer covered with a thin layer blend of polyvinylidene fluoride and acrylic polymers, or a cross-linked acrylic outer layer. A useful cap layer would be a UV resistant acrylic cap layer, such as a Solarkote® resins from Arkema, covered by a co-extruded blend of polyvinylidene fluoride, such as Kynar® resins from Arkema, with an acrylic resin, such as Plexiglas® resins from Arkema. The highly weatherable and chemical resistant pultruded structure is especially useful in window and door profiles.
WEDGE-SHAPED MULTI-LAYER INTERLAYER WITH OUTER SKIN LAYERS OF VARYING THICKNESS
Multiple layer interlayers having enhanced optical and acoustic properties are provided, along with methods of making and using the same. Interlayers as described herein may include at least two outer skin layers and an inner core layer, with one of the outer skin layers having a different thickness than the other at one or more locations along the interlayer. The multi-layer interlayer may also exhibit acoustic properties and, in some cases, may have an overall wedged thickness profile. Additionally, in some aspects, interlayers and laminates formed therefrom may also provide reduced infrared energy transmission, without sacrificing acoustic and/or optical performance.
Construction panel having improved fixing strength
A plasterboard comprising a gypsum matrix having wood particles embedded therein in an amount of at least 2 wt % relative to the gypsum, the gypsum matrix further comprising glass fibres in an amount of at least 1 wt % relative to the gypsum.
Multi-layered composite structures and methods for the preparation thereof
The present invention relates to multi-layered composite structures and to methods for the preparation thereof. The present multi-layered composite structures are light weight and capable of high load bearing making the present multi-layered composite structures especially suitable to be used as load bearing structures in, for example, automotive. Specifically, the present invention relates to methods comprising the steps of a) providing a mould for said multi-layered composite structure; b) layering said mould with two or more layers forming the outer surface of said multi-layered composite; c) filling said layered mould with a mixture comprised of non-expanded heat-expandable microspheres and closing said mould; and d) subjecting said closed mould to a temperature of 80° C. to 140° C. during 1 to 230 minutes thereby providing a relative pressure in said closed mould of 0.1 to 20 bar through expansion of said heat-expandable microspheres thereby forming a multi-layered composite structure in said mould with a foam enforced inner core and a multi-layered outer surface; and e) separating the multi-layered composite structure from said mould.
