BIOACTIVE BIOPOLYMER FILMS AND COATINGS

A multi-layer bioactive and biodegradable film. The multi-layer film includes one or more bioactive compounds or microorganisms for promoting growth and health of a plant, the bioactive compounds or microorganisms contained between layers of the film, wherein each one of the layers comprises about 60% to about 75% (m/m) polyhydroxyalkanoate. The bioactive compounds or microorganisms may include any one of or a combination of: a metabolite, an anti-microbial compound, an enzyme, a live microorganism, a fertilizer, a plant growth hormone, a preservative, a pesticide or an herbicide. Release of one or more bioactive compounds may be achieved in a timed and controlled manner.

Rapid preparation of stem cell matrices for use in tissue and organ treatment and repair

A rapid method for preparing stem cell and physiologically acceptable matrix compositions for use in tissue and organ repair is described. Compared with previous tissue engineering materials, the stem cell-matrix compositions of the present invention do not require long-term incubation or cultivation in vitro prior to use in in vivo applications. The stem cells can be from numerous sources and may be homogeneous, heterogeneous, autologous, and/or allogeneic in the matrix material. The stem cell-matrix compositions provide point of service utility for the practitioner, wherein the stem cells and matrix can be combined not long before use, thereby alleviating costly and lengthy manufacturing procedures. In addition, the stem cells offer unique structural properties to the matrix composition which improves outcome and healing after use. Use of stem cells obtained from muscle affords contractility to the matrix composition.

Combinations comprising a fungicidal strain and an active compound

Fungicidal mixtures, comprising 1) a fungicidal strain (I) selected from a) the Bacillus substilis strain with NRRL Accession No. B-21661, and b) the Bacillus pumilus strain with NRRL Accession No. B-30087, or a mutant of these strains having all the identifying characteristics of the respective strain, or a metabolite produced by the respective strain that exhibits activity against plant pathogenic fungi, and 2) at least one chemical compound (II), selected from the active compound groups A) to F): A) azoles; B) strobilurins; C) carboxamides; D) heterocyclic compounds; E) carbamates; F) other fungicides; in a synergistically effective amount, methods for controlling harmful fungi using compositions of components 1) and 2), the use of a component 1) with a component 2) for preparing such compositions, and also fungicidal agents and seed comprising such compositions.

Compositions and methods for controlling fungal and bacterial diseases in plants

The present invention provides a fungicidal composition comprising a strain of Bacillus subtilis or Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and one of several compounds in a synergistically effective amount. Also provided are methods of controlling fungal harmful organisms and/or bacterial harmful organisms in a plant, the method comprising applying an effective amount of a fungicidal composition to the plant, to a part of the plant and/or to a locus on which the plant or plant part grows.

Modification of nitrogen-fixing rhizobacteria to enhance nodulated plant resistance

The present invention provides compositions and methods for modification of rhizobacteria to reduce or eliminate gibberellin production. The modified rhizobacteria are used in methods and compositions that alter the physiology of nodulating plants. These methods and compositions involve combining the modified rhizobacteria with a nodulating plant, or a seed or part thereof, or providing the modified rhizobacteria to a nodulating plant, or seed or part thereof. In another aspect, the invention involves the nodulating plants produced by these methods, wherein the nodulating plants have altered physiology as a result of association with the modified rhizobacteria.

A SYNERGISTIC COMPOSITION COMPRISING A MIXTURE OF BACTERIA OF THE GENERA LACTOBACILLUS AND PROPIONOBACTERIUM PARTICULARLY USEFUL TO REDUCE OR ELIMINATE PATHOGEN CONTAMINATION IN SOYBEN MEAL AND ITS DERIVATIVES; METHODS AND USES THEREOF

The invention discloses a synergistic composition comprising a mix of bacteria of the genera Lactobacillus and Propionibacterium which is particularly useful to reduce or eliminate contamination by bacteria of the genus Salmonella and fungi, thus also preventing the occurrence of mycotoxins in soybean meal and its derivatives.
