The current disclosure provides methods and compositions useful in preparing transformed and immortalized zebra and quagga mussel cells that function as disseminated neoplastic (DN) cells, as well as the cells produced thereby. In particular, these cells are immortalized through modifying expression of the TERT nucleic acid and/or protein. Also provided are methods for using such mussel DNCs in cell culture, in vitro, and within live mussels in the lab or in the wild, to control mussel populations such as invasive zebra mussel or quagga mussel populations.

A compound plant-derived molluscicide for controlling Pomacea canaliculata and a preparation method and application thereof are disclosed. The compound plant-derived molluscicide is prepared from following raw materials in proportion by weight: 40-45% of water extract of Solidago canadensis L. leaves, 45-50% of water extract of Lantana camara L. roots, 0.1-0.2% of active ingredient stabilizer, and 0.1-0.2% of preservative; and a balance is ultrapure water. The disclosure has rich raw material resources, low cost, good molluscicidal effect, sustained and stable efficacy, non-toxic effect on freshwater fish, and meets the requirements of environmental protection.

The granular composition may be effective and long-acting in such a use due to improved weather resistance compared to loose combustion product or alkaline material. A method of producing such a granular composition comprising a combustion product or an alkaline material and a barrier method preventing access to plants by molluscs with said granular composition comprising a combustion product or an alkaline material are also disclosed. A granular composition comprising at least 98 wt % of a combustion product or an alkaline material, wherein at least 98% of the granules have a size of from 0.5 to 10.0 mm is also disclosed.
