CREASING DEVICE FOR FORMING CREASES IN PAPER AND BOOKBINDING ARTICLES, AND MACHINE COMPRISING SUCH DEVICE
A creasing device includes a frame with a substantially horizontal support surface for supporting an article to be creased; a movable tool; and a stationary tool, the latter comprising a stationary member and at least one displaceable member whose height relative to the stationary member can be adjusted. A first actuator moves the movable tool toward the stationary tool and interacts with opposite faces of the article, and a second actuator translates the displaceable member between a first end position in which interacts with the movable tool and a second end position in which it cannot interact with the movable tool. Guide means associated with the stationary tool guides the displaceable member between the first end position and the second end position. The guide means are have a curvilinear path contained in a plane substantially perpendicular to the support surface.
Device and method for producing bound book blocks comprising a lining strip or a cover
A device for producing a bound book block including a lining strip or a cover includes a pressing station configured to move the lining strip or the cover in a pressing direction from a position from which the lining strip or the cover is gluable to a spine of the book block and to press the lining strip or the cover against the spine of the book block. A lining supply and a cover supply are each disposed upstream of the pressing station. A linearly movable common transport means is connected to the pressing station and configured to selectively, successively transfer the lining strip or the cover into the pressing station in a conveying direction and to convey the lining strip or the cover in the pressing station relative to the book block into a second position.
Method of manufacturing folders having under-dimensions, a machine for such a manufacture, and a cassette for such a machine and such a manufacturing method
Method of manufacturing a folder (1), which continuously or intermittently is fed through a machine (51) by a conveying means (52, 53) adapted to an ordinary folder of a nominal width dimension (B.sub.nom), wherein said folder (1) features an under-dimension in relation to the width dimension of the ordinary folder, and that said folder (1) is placed in a cassette (40) having a dimension (B.sub.k) corresponding to said under-dimension and having an outer dimension corresponding to said nominal dimension (B.sub.nom), which cassette (40) is moved through the machine (51) by said conveying means (52, 53). As well as a machine (51) and a cassette (40) for the realization of said method.
BINDING DEVICE AND IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS
A binding unit includes a pressing portion that binds a recording material bundle, which includes a first pressing portion pressing against the recording material bundle in order to bind the recording material bundle and a second pressing portion facing the first pressing portion, an extruding portion that is separately formed from the second pressing portion, and extrudes the second pressing portion toward the first pressing portion, and a driving source that drives the extruding portion, in which the extruding portion is connected to the pressing portion, the pressing portion retracts to a downstream side in a direction where a recording material enters when the recording material enters, and the driving source does not operate in conjunction with movement of the reaction of the pressing portion.

Saddle stitch books and methods of producing the same
Systems and methods are disclosed to produce a books in which interior staples are hidden. One disclosed example apparatus includes a sensor to detect a position of a book being produced on a binding line. The example book includes signatures coupled by a fastener. The fastener separates a first signature portion from a second signature portion of a first signature. The example apparatus also includes an adhesive dispenser to dispense adhesive to at least one of on or adjacent the fastener to couple the first signature portion and the second signature portion along a first fold adjacent the fastener. The example apparatus also includes a controller to cause the adhesive dispenser to dispense adhesive based on the position of the book detected by the sensor.
Apparatus for loading binder strips into a binding machine
Apparatus for loading heat-activated adhesive binder strips into a binding machine where the loaded binder strip is utilized to bind a stack of sheets. A support arm with an attached thermal head is temporarily secured to the adhesive of a binder strip located external to the binding machine. The attached strip is transported into the binding machine and the released so that the strip can be used to carry out a binding operation. The thermal head temperature is controlled to levels above and below the adhesive melting point to accomplish securing and releasing the strip.
