Decorative panel having a digitally printed pattern
10933686 · 2021-03-02 ·

Disclosed is a method of producing a pattern for a decorative panel. The method includes applying a clear gel coat on a mold to form a clear layer. The clear layer is cured and then digitally printed with one or more inks so as to produce a pattern on the clear layer. Also disclosed is a decorative panel including a clear layer, an opaque layer and a pattern digitally printed on the clear layer, between the clear and opaque layers, such that the pattern is visible through the clear layer.

Methods and apparatus to form venting channels on a panel for a decorative layer
10953643 · 2021-03-23 · ·

Methods and apparatus to form venting channels on a panel for a decorative layer are disclosed. An example method includes contacting an outer surface of a tool to an outer resin layer of a panel. The outer surface of the tool has protrusions. The example method includes moving the outer surface of the tool on the outer resin layer of the panel in a first direction to cause the protrusions of the tool to form first venting channels on the outer resin layer of the panel and coupling a decorative layer to the outer resin layer of the panel via an adhesive layer. The first venting channels are to vent at least one of gas or vapor away from the decorative layer to deter separation of a portion of the decorative layer from the outer resin layer.

Method for forming dye sublimation images in and texturing of solid substrates
10940715 · 2021-03-09 · ·

A method for texturing a thermoplastic substrate, while forming a dye sublimation image in the thermoplastic substrate is provided. A stack comprising a thermoplastic substrate and a plurality of processing layers is provided, wherein the plurality of processing layers comprise a dye carrier having a dye image and an elastomeric membrane and wherein at least one of the processing layers of the stack is textured. A vacuum pressure is provided on the stack through an elastomeric membrane, wherein the stack is clamped together. The stack is heated to at least a sublimation temperature of the stack, wherein texture from at least one of the process layers is transferred to the thermoplastic substrate. The thermoplastic substrate is cooled to a release temperature. The vacuum pressure is removed. The thermoplastic substrate is removed from the stack.

METHOD FOR CREATING MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL CURRENT PATHWAYS ON A WORK PIECE USING LASER ABLATION
20210207280 · 2021-07-08 ·

A method for creating multiple current pathways for plating a work piece is provided. An electroless layer of material is applied to the work piece using an electroless plating process. The method includes creating a barrier in electrical conductivity in the work piece to divide the work piece into a first segment and a second segment which are substantially electrically insulated from one another, prior to electroplating the work piece. After depositing the electroless layer of material, laser ablation is performed on at least a portion of the work piece to remove a portion of the electroless layer of material to define at least a portion of the barrier. Prior to electroless plating, a resist material may be applied to at least a portion of the work piece, with the resist material combining with the removed material to define the barrier.

Process for transferring microstructures to a final substrate

A process for transferring microstructures to a flexible or rigid final substrate that offers advantages in both speed and precision is provided. The inventive process involves subjecting a transfer film in a continuous roll-to-roll process to the following operations: either forming microstructures on, or transferring microstructures to a surface of the transfer film; and then transferring the microstructures from the transfer film onto a surface of the final substrate. The microstructures are single or multi-layer structures that are made up of: voids in a substantially planar surface, the voids optionally filled or coated with another material; raised areas in a substantially planar surface; or combinations thereof.

Method and apparatus for producing three-dimensional decoration piece made of thermoplastic synthetic resin
10894367 · 2021-01-19 · ·

A method and an apparatus for producing a three-dimensional decoration piece that does not damage the tacky bonding or adhesion strength of the lower layer material of the decoration piece. The method includes putting an upper layer material on a first table operating as cathode; lowering an upper mold operating as anode onto the first table, emitting a high frequency wave for dielectric heating; stopping the high frequency dielectric heating; moving a second table carrying a lower layer material having a tacky bonding property to below the upper mold; and lowering said upper mold onto the second table. In the apparatus, the second table or the lower mold is provided on the top surface thereof with recessed sections that are transversally and inwardly separated from a position where an edge of the first machining means contacts, by 0.2 mm to 1 mm; and a cushion member being arranged in the respective recessed sections.
