A risk segment is a segment of the road where the autonomous vehicle is determined to be in need of assistance based on characteristics of that road segment. If a risk segment is determined, the device is configured to perform a matching sequence in order to find a pilot vehicle capable of piloting the autonomous vehicle past the risk segment, and to generate information data about a result of the performed matching sequence.

If a temperature in the transmission is lower than a threshold level during propulsion in a hybrid mode, a controller operates an engine at an optimally fuel efficient point. If the temperature in the transmission system is equal to or higher than the threshold level during propulsion in a hybrid mode, the controller shifts the operating point of the engine to the point at which the heat generation in the transmission system can be suppressed.
