Occupant restraint actuated apparatus for dynamically stiffening a motor vehicle seat back
An apparatus for dynamically stiffening a vehicle seat back may include a vehicle seat including a seat bottom mountable within a vehicle, a seat back extending upwardly away from the seat bottom, and a bight defined at a forward-facing interface between the seat bottom and the seat back, an occupant restraint harness coupled to the vehicle seat and engaging a top end of the seat back, and a seat back stiffening apparatus having a seat back stiffening member and an actuator coupled to the occupant restraint harness adjacent to or near the bight of the vehicle seat. The actuator may be responsive to a first force applied thereto by the occupant restraint harness in excess of a first threshold force to deploy the seat back stiffening member to couple to and between the seat bottom and the seat back to add stiffness to the seat back frame.

Running-end spool containment device and system
Running-end spool containment devices and systems are described herein that allow a user to secure a running-end of a strap within a lockable device to anchor the running-end of the strap at a selectable length when the device is in a locked mode, and to enable the running-end of the strap be lengthened or shortened when the device is in an unlocked mode. In an embodiment, the device includes an axel about which the running-end of a strap can be wound and unwound, a lock case that can engage the axel to prevent axel rotation in the locked mode and that can be disengaged from the axel to allow the axel to rotate freely in the unlocked mode, and a spring case that causes the axel to rotate and the running-end of the strap to wind around the axel when the lock cases is in the unlocked mode.
System and method for protecting occupants of a vehicle
A protective system for a motor vehicle with automatic electrical seat position control and/or automatic electrical steering wheel adjustment is provided. The protective system includes a seat position control unit, a steering wheel adjustment control unit, an accident detection device and a communications connection. The seat position control unit is deactivates the automatic electrical seat position control. The steering wheel adjustment control unit is deactivates the automatic electrical steering wheel adjustment. The accident detection device detects a traffic accident of the motor vehicle. The communications connection connects the accident detection device to the seat position control unit and/or the steering wheel adjustment control unit. The accident detection device outputs at least one accident signal to the communications connection in the event of the detection of a traffic accident of the motor vehicle.
Pretensioner and safety belt assembly having the same
A pretensioner and safety belt assembly may include includes a base member fixed to a vehicle, a torsion shaft having a first side and a second side rotatably supported on the base member, a torsion tube having a first end portion fixed on an external surface of the torsion shaft and a second end portion rotatably supported on the external surface of the torsion shaft wherein a belt configured to restrain an occupant is wound around an external surface of the torsion tube, a traction wire wound around an end portion of the torsion shaft on an opposite side to where the torsion tube is fixed to the torsion shaft in an opposite direction to a direction in which the belt is wound, and a pulling device configured to pull the traction wire to rotate the torsion shaft.
HEAD SUPPORT FOR A CHILD CAR SEAT AND METHOD
A head support for a child car seat is disclosed. The head support includes a left pad configured to support a neck and head of the child from the left side, a right pad configured to support the neck and head of the child from the right side, a front-closure configured to removably couple the left pad to the right pad on the front, a rear-closure configured to removably couple the left pad to the right pad on the back, opposite the front closure and about the neck of the child, a car seat mount affixable to the child car-seat, and configured to couple the head support to the child car seat, and a pair of collar-straps configured to couple the left pad and the right pad to the car seat mount, respectively.
Head and neck restraint device with dynamic articulation
A head and neck restraint device for high performance race car drivers. The device includes a yoke, a collar and a pair of legs. The yoke and/or collar are adapted to pivotably articulate with respect to the legs. At least a portion of each leg can flex in response to force.
Torso equipment support system (TESS)
A torso equipment support system, for use with a seat bucket of an aviation or ground vehicle, providing upper torso and worn equipment support to an occupant. The system includes a base, a flexible column, a support beam, and a shoulder harness assembly. The shoulder harness assembly is coupled to the support beam and configured for releasable attachment with shoulder belts worn by the occupant. The shoulder harness assembly includes a yoke and a set of restraint shoulder straps. The yoke is slideably coupled to the support beam at a first vertically oriented portion and has a second portion that is split into two horizontally projecting members for extension over the shoulders of the occupant. The set of restraint shoulder straps project inwardly for extension over the shoulders of the occupant from at least one retractor, and extend to the horizontally projecting members.
Plus-two belt reminder system
A plus-two belt system is provided. The plus-two belt system is a supplement to a traditional three-point belt system. The plus-two belt system has a longitudinal webbing anchored at a first end and coiled on a retractor at a second end. When an occupant is sensed and the vehicle engine is on, a reminder chime can sound when a magnetic strip in the webbing of the plus-two belt system is detected. The magnetic strip can be detected with a Hall effect sensor and the Hall effect sensor can be located adjacent the retractor.
Vehicle seat assembly
A seat assembly is provided herein. The seat assembly includes a seat member having a support surface. A pair of seat member bolsters is disposed on opposing sides of the seat member. A seat base supports the seat member and has a wraparound sidewall that extends above a bottom portion of each seat member bolster.
