WHEEL CHOCK WITH LOCKING MECHANISM

The wheel chock includes a locking mechanism that can be held in a locked state when properly positioned on a base plate. The locking mechanism includes a positioning unit having at least one tooth provided to engage a side of a corresponding one of the blocking elements in a latched engagement when the positioning unit is in the fully locked position. The locking mechanism also includes an actuating device to move the positioning unit from the unlocked position towards the fully locked position, and a holding device to selectively hold the positioning unit in the fully locked position.

The system attaches to a semi-trailer or other vehicle, and may be powered by the existing air brake system of the vehicle. The system enables the wheel chock to descend from a stowed position to a deployed position, immediately in front of or behind the vehicle wheel and on the ground surface, or vice versa. The system may be further comprised of an actuation means in the cab of the vehicle for activating or deactivating the wheel chocks, a detection means for detecting whether the chocks are in a stowed or deployed position and a visual or audible indicator for alerting the user as to the positioning of the chock(s).

Each of the pair of elongated parallel tube members and/or each of the pair of short parallel tube members comprises a cavity configured to receive a ballast material to provide sufficient weight to ensure that the wheel shield apparatus contacts the floor such that cables along the floor are pushed out of the way by the wheel shield apparatus and prevented from being run over while the machinery is being transported.

The profile includes a generally flat bottom surface (46) for being in contact with a ground surface (30), a substantially broken top surface (44) for being in contact with the wheel (22), the top surface (44) including a first contact point (P1), a second contact point (P2), and a contact surface (52) there between allowing at most two points of contact at a time between the contact surface (52) and the wheel (22), with the second contact point (P2) being one of the two points of contact. A more specific clothoid profile of the contact surface (52) is preferred to minimize the rate of variation of the contact force of the wheel (22) with the chock (40).
