Systems and methods for detecting electromagnetic emissions to monitor and manage road traffic. In one implementation, a system is provided for determining at least one of location, speed, and direction of vehicles on a roadway. The system comprising at least one receiver configured for placement at one or more fixed locations along the roadway to detect a plurality of non-reflected electromagnetic emissions originating from a plurality of vehicles. The system further comprise at least one processor configured to receive signal information from the at least one receiver and to identify in the plurality of non-reflected electromagnetic emissions an electromagnetic waveform of a vehicle. The at least one processor may calculate at least one of a Doppler effect, a phase difference, or a time difference of non-reflected electromagnetic emissions associated with the identified electromagnetic waveform, and determine at least one of a location, speed, and direction of the vehicle.

Automatic generation of pedestrians in virtual simulation of roadway intersections

The disclosure includes embodiments for automatically generating a virtual pedestrian for inclusion in a digital simulation. Some embodiments of a method may include automatically generating a virtual pedestrian based on a path specification and a behavior specification. The method may include executing a digital simulation that includes the virtual pedestrian crossing an intersection and a virtual vehicle responding to the virtual pedestrian crossing the intersection, wherein the digital simulation is operable to measure a performance of a virtual Advanced Driver Assistance System (virtualized “ADAS system”) included in the virtual vehicle to protect the virtual pedestrian when responding to the virtual pedestrian crossing the intersection. The method may include displaying a set of visualizations on a display, wherein the set of visualizations on the display visually describe the performance of the virtual ADAS system to protect the virtual pedestrian when responding to the virtual pedestrian crossing the intersection.

A travel amount estimation apparatus includes a vehicle travel amount calculation unit, a sensor travel amount calculation unit, an error cause determination unit, and a vehicle travel amount correction unit. The vehicle travel amount calculation unit acquires vehicle information and calculates a vehicle travel amount based on the vehicle information. The sensor travel amount calculation unit acquires sensor information from an external sensor and calculates a sensor travel amount based on the sensor information. The error cause determination unit determines an error cause of the vehicle travel amount. The vehicle travel amount correction unit corrects the vehicle travel amount by using the sensor travel amount in accordance with the error cause and estimates a travel amount of the vehicle on which it is mounted.

The data processing section performs specific offline data processing for a chunk of the sensing data stored in the processing-data-base-section so as to generate data of the road surface displacement correlating value from the sensing data.

A method for estimating a grip of a tire supporting a vehicle includes generating a first set of data from a tire-mounted sensor unit, generating a second set of data from the tire-mounted sensor unit and from data obtained from the vehicle, and generating a third set of data from data obtained from the vehicle and from the Internet. A grip estimation module is provided. The first, second and third sets of data are received in the grip estimation module. A friction probability distribution is calculated with the grip estimation module using the first, second and third sets of data, and the friction probability distribution is input into at least one vehicle system.

Method for estimating tire grip

A method for estimating a grip of a tire supporting a vehicle includes generating a first set of data from a tire-mounted sensor unit, generating a second set of data from the tire-mounted sensor unit and from data obtained from the vehicle, and generating a third set of data from data obtained from the vehicle and from the Internet. A grip estimation module is provided. The first, second and third sets of data are received in the grip estimation module. A friction probability distribution is calculated with the grip estimation module using the first, second and third sets of data, and the friction probability distribution is input into at least one vehicle system.
