Method, device and computer-readable storage medium with instructions for determining the lateral position of a vehicle relative to the lanes on a roadway
A method, a device and a computer-readable storage medium with instructions for determining the lateral position of a vehicle relative to the lanes on a roadway. The device has an image processing unit for detecting roadway markings as well as a positioning unit for determining an initial position for the vehicle. An evaluation unit is set up to determine that the detected roadway markings are insufficient for detecting a lateral position of the vehicle by comparing the detected roadway markings with roadway marking information from a lane geometry map for the initial position determined for the vehicle. In this case, the evaluation unit identifies an approximate lateral position of the vehicle while taking into consideration information from the lane geometric map.
Method and apparatus for executing engine autostart in a powertrain system employing multiple torque generating devices
A powertrain system is described, and includes an internal combustion engine and an electric machine configured to generate propulsion torque responsive to a driver torque request. A method for operating the powertrain system includes determining, in response to a request to execute an engine autostart operation, whether a driveline torque sag may occur. The method further includes forgoing executing the engine autostart operation when it is determined that a driveline torque sag will occur during the execution of the engine autostart operation.
VEHICLE WHEEL SLIPPAGE CONTROL
An agricultural vehicle and method of controlling the same are provided, the vehicle having a motive power unit providing a driving torque to at least one driven wheel and having at least one tyre or track frictionally coupled with the periphery of the driven wheel. A vehicle operating parameter is controlled in dependence on the driving torque and a slippage characteristic relating the respective driving torque at which the frictional coupling between driven wheel and tyre or track begins to slip for a range of vehicle operating parameter values. The operating parameter is suitably a tyre pressure or track tension, and the control may involve reducing driving torque or increasing pressure/tension to prevent slipping.
Human-Supervised Autonomous Systems Performance and Safety Monitoring Methods and Apparatus
Human supervisor failures in autonomous system operations are detected. Perception sensor data input is obtained from a sensor. A violation of a safety envelope by at least one external object is detected within the perception sensor data input. A response to the violation of the safety envelope is triggered. The safety envelope has predetermined dimensions that are based upon an expected time to mitigate the violation of the safety envelope.
ADVANCED PASSENGER SAFETY FOR AN AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE
Systems and methods can improve passenger safety for an Autonomous Vehicle (AV) based on the integration of sensor data captured by the AV's interior and exterior sensors. The AV can determine passenger occupancy data corresponding to where each passenger is detected within the AV by the interior sensors. The AV can determine multiple sets of one or more driving actions that the AV can perform at a future time. The AV can generate crash impact data corresponding to where each passenger is detected from one or more simulated collisions between the AV and one or more objected detected by the exterior sensors when the AV performs one or more sets of driving actions from among the multiple sets. The AV can determine ranked sets of driving actions based on the passenger occupancy data and the crash impact data.
HYBRID VEHICLE
A control device executes abnormality detection processing for detecting an abnormality of a current sensor. The abnormality detection processing includes first processing which is executed in a case where, during reception of electric power from a power supply, a state of charge of a power storage device is equal to or greater than a predetermined amount and electric power is supplied to an electrically heated catalyst device. The first processing includes processing for detecting an abnormality of the current sensor by estimating a current supplied to the electrically heated catalyst device using a detection value of a charging current sensor and comparing the estimated value with a detection value of the current sensor.
Reconfigurable system with minimum mobility mode
A method includes detecting a fault of a component of a vehicle. The method also includes providing a plurality of modes of operation for the vehicle including an engine only mode, an electric only mode, a hybrid mode, a partial engine only mode, a partial electric only mode and a partial hybrid mode. At least two of the plurality of modes of operation that avoid use of the faulty component are displayed on a display screen, and a selection of one of the at least two of the plurality of modes of operation that are displayed on the display screen is received. The method includes activating at least one electric, mechanical or software isolator to isolate or disengage at least one component associated with electric propulsion of the vehicle or at least one component associated with combustion engine propulsion of the vehicle that includes the faulty component.
SAFE-TO-PROCEED SYSTEM FOR AN AUTOMATED VEHICLE
A safe-to-proceed system for operating an automated vehicle proximate to an intersection includes an intersection-detector, a vehicle-detector, and a controller. The intersection-detector is suitable for use on a host-vehicle. The intersection-detector is used to determine when a host-vehicle is proximate to an intersection. The vehicle-detector is also suitable for use on the host-vehicle. The vehicle-detector is used to estimate a stopping-distance of an other-vehicle approaching the intersection. The controller is in communication with the intersection-detector and the vehicle-detector. The controller is configured to prevent the host-vehicle from entering the intersection when the stopping-distance indicates that the other-vehicle will enter the intersection before stopping.
Cruise control system and method for vehicle
A cruise control system capable of: determining, by a controller, whether the vehicle is in a cruise mode-on state; determining, by the controller, an operation mode of the vehicle selected by a driver; and when it is determined that the vehicle is in the cruise mode-on state, performing, by the controller, cruise control of the vehicle for the operation mode selected by the driver, and a method therefor. Herein, the operation mode includes an eco mode which performs driving control prioritizing fuel consumption reduction.
System and Method for Inspecting Road Surfaces
A method of inspecting a road for substances includes generating a flash of infra-red light at a wavelength to illuminate a portion of the road. The wavelength corresponds to an absorption wavelength of a substance to be detected. The method further includes, in response to a difference in backscatter intensity of an image of the portion captured during the flash and an image of the portion captured before or after the flash being greater than a threshold amount, outputting a signal indicating presence of the substance on the portion.
