Hatch cover mounted latch for a railcar

A railcar hatch cover assembly having a cover, a latch engaging structure, a latch coupled to the cover, and a handle coupled to the latch. The handle is configured to be grasped by an operator. When a substantially vertical force is applied to the handle, it moves the latch from a latched position to an unlatched position and moves the cover from a closed position to an open position. When the cover is dropped from the open position to the closed position, the latch contacts the latch engaging structure and moves from the unlatched position to the latched position. A railcar latch assembly having a latch coupled to the cover and a handle coupled to the latch. The latch has an arcuate bottom surface that contacts the latch engaging structure to move the latch from an unlatched position to a latched position.

The use of short consists of powered and unpowered freight cars for moving cargo from its source to transfer facilities is described. The use of short consists of powered and unpowered freight cars can enable the efficient operation of unit trains. Single self-powered rail cars or short consists (up to about 25 cars) can overcome a number of problems associated with long unit trains such as dynamic instabilities, inability to stop quickly if needed and long headway time required between trains. A system of feeder trains (aggregators) to facilitate keeping unit trains in more or less constant motion is described. The use of gearing and shafts for power transmission from traction motors installed on various types of freight cars using the structure of the existing freight car truck is also described.

CONTAINER
20220185578 · 2022-06-16 · ·

An apparatus for storing or transporting flowable materials or other materials, such as diesel fuel, includes a container and a support. The container is supported by the support. The support sits on or is mounted across an upper part of an open top railway wagon or open top truck or truck trailer used for transporting bulk commodities (such as coal or iron ore). The apparatus is movable between an expanded configuration in which the container is expandable into a lower part of the open top railway wagon or open top truck or truck trailer used for transporting bulk commodities, and a collapsed configuration in which the container is collapsible to the support. In use, a railway wagon is filled with coal or other bulk commodities and the apparatus is placed on top of the railway wagon in the collapsed configuration. At the port, the coal is emptied from the railway wagon and the container of the apparatus is filled with fuel. The support supports the apparatus on the railway wagon and the container extends into the railway wagon. The fuel may then be transported back to the mine, where the apparatus is removed from the railway wagon and the container decanted. The railway wagon is again filled with coal or other bulk commodities and the apparatus is placed on top of the railway wagon in the collapsed configuration and the cycle continues to meet the fuel requirements of the relevant mine.

Railcar dewatering unit and method of using the same

A dewatering unit in the form of a railcar having bogies thereon to move the unit on rail tracks. The dewatering unit has first and second ends, first and second sides, and a bottom that bound and define an interior chamber. A conveyor is provided in the interior chamber and screens are located in the bottom and first and second sides. A grizzly is located below an opening in the unit's top and above the conveyor. Stabilizing assemblies are deployed to contact the ground and lift some weight off of the bogies prior to loading. A solid material/liquid mixture is dropped through the opening and onto the grizzly which partially fractures the solid material. Further fracturing is undertaken by conveyor drag bars and crushers located adjacent the conveyor. Liquid drains from the unit through the screens. The dewatered solid material is lifted out of the unit by the conveyor.

Methods, systems and a kit for indicating brake air pressure status in brake pipes of multiple interconnected train cars are provided. The methods include operating at least one end-hose adapter per train car. Each end-hose adapter is mounted between a train car end hose and a brake pipe to be in fluid communication therewith and are configured to sense the brake air pressure in the brake pipe. Each end-hose adapter kit includes connections adapters for connecting either end to different parts of the train car system. The end-hose adapter provides a first visual indication when the brake air pressure is within an operable range and/or a second visual indication when the brake air pressure is below an operable value and is experiencing leakage.
