METHOD FOR MANAGING BRAKING IN A DEGRADED ADHESION CONDITION FOR A VEHICLE SYSTEM
A system and method for managing braking in a degraded adhesion condition for a vehicle system including at least one vehicle comprising setting a target deceleration value, applying a non-degraded braking force via a braking system of the vehicle system, detecting a presence of a degraded adhesion condition between the vehicle system and a route along which the vehicle system moves. Responsive to the degraded adhesion condition not being detected, maintaining the application of the non-degraded braking force, or responsive to the degraded adhesion condition being detected, applying a degraded braking force, activating recovery means to control deceleration of the vehicle system, determining a compensation deceleration value, and applying at least one of the braking system or recovery means to control the deceleration of the vehicle system.
SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNET FOR EDDY-CURRENT BRAKING FOR HIGH-SPEED TRAINS
A superconducting magnet for eddy-current braking for a high-speed train. The superconducting magnet is fixed at a bottom of a bogie of the high-speed train through a connecting mechanism, and an air gap is formed between the superconducting magnet and a top of a guide rail below the bogie. The superconducting magnet after being excited generates an eddy-current effect with the guide rail of the high-speed train, so as to generate a braking force opposite to a traveling direction of the train, thereby braking the high-speed train. A liquid-level meter is provided on the superconducting magnet to detect a position of a cooling agent liquid level in real time. The superconducting magnet withstands vibration impact through elastic tie rod assemblies when the high-speed train is under operation, showing good adaptability.

Individualized Dynamic Electric Train Braking
A system and method for reducing the threat of derailment of a train during deceleration is provided. An individualized braking force for each rail car of a train, such individualized braking force being determined by the braking deceleration of the train's locomotive, may be calculated by the rail car's controller and is directly proportional to the mass of the rail car. The controller may utilize the various forces acting upon the individual rail car as measured by a plurality of sensing and measuring devices to dynamically adjust the braking force applied to the individual rail car's brakes. Such a system and method allows for the train to act as a single body mass When decelerating to eliminate rail car pile-up and reduce the threat of derailment.
TRAIN SYSTEM MONITORING
An on board unit (OBU) of a train may determine that a trip or shift has ended and may initiate a train log-off procedure. The OBU may monitor for at least one alert condition during performance of the log-off procedure, the at least one alert condition comprising a condition wherein unauthorized train movement is possible. In response to detecting the at least one alert condition, the OBU may report the at least one alert condition and disable the train log-off procedure until the OBU determines that the at least one alert condition is resolved. In response to failing to detect the at least one alert condition and/or in response to determining that the at least one alert condition is resolved, the OBU may complete the train log-off procedure.

RESISTORS FOR DYNAMIC BRAKING
A resistor includes an elongated cylindrical body having nodes and elongated members. The elongated members interconnect the nodes to form openings between the nodes and the elongated members for the flow therethrough of a cooling fluid. The body is configured to receive electric current from a powered system and to conduct and provide electric resistance to the electric current to dissipate at least part of the electric current as heat from the body. The body also is configured to be coupled with at least one other resistor of the powered system in one or more of a parallel or series arrangement in an electric circuit.
HEAT SINK COVER AND ELECTRICALLY OPERATED VEHICLE
An electrically operated vehicle includes a braking resistor in a heat sink cover. The heat sink cover has an air throughflow body having vent openings and an air throughflow direction perpendicular to a direction of travel of the vehicle. The heat sink cover includes an inlet flap on an air inflow side and an outlet flap on an air outflow side. An opening mechanism opens and closes the flaps. In the closed state, the flaps are oriented along the direction of travel and obliquely to the air throughflow direction. In a plan view of the vent openings, the vent openings are at least 90% covered by the flaps in the closed state and at most 60% covered by the flaps in the opened state. The flaps are disposed symmetrically to a vehicle center axis, and the vent openings are oriented parallel to side surfaces of the vehicle.
