A method and a control device determine a position-related braking ability of a vehicle. A first vehicle determines at least one piece of position-related information of a route section, the at least one piece of position-related information of the route section being information relating to the braking ability on the route section. The first vehicle transmits the at least one piece of position-related information to a receiver, the receiver being at least one second vehicle, whereby the braking curves of at least one rail vehicle are adapted according to the situation, thus allowing safety on the route section and the utilization of the section to be improved.

A locomotive control system includes a locomotive having a traction motor and sensors. The traction motor provides tractive effort for propelling the locomotive and the sensors measure performance conditions of the locomotive. The system also includes a controller having one or more processors communicatively coupled with the traction motor. The controller selects one or more baseline conditions that designate operational conditions under which the locomotive is to operate, and monitors the performance conditions that are generated by the locomotive during operation of the locomotive according to the operational conditions designated by the one or more baseline conditions. The controller identifies a flashover condition or a plugging condition of the locomotive by comparing the performance conditions that are generated by the locomotive during operation of the locomotive with the one or more baseline conditions. The flashover condition or the plugging condition causing degradation of one or more components of the locomotive.

The event is one of an utterance of a voice command by a railway personnel or an incident that potentially impacts an operation of the train. The End-of-Train device further comprises a memory and a processing unit communicatively coupled to the memory. The processing unit is configured to execute one or more instructions in the memory to analyze an audio input to identify one or more actions to be performed by the End-of-Train device and to initiate execution of the one or more actions identified. Further, a notification may be generated based on execution of the one or more actions.

According to some embodiments, a railcar monitoring system for monitoring one or more conditions associated with a railcar comprises a railcar controller and one or more sensors disposed throughout the railcar and communicably coupled to the railcar controller. The railcar controller is configured to exchange data with the one or more sensors and transmit data from the one or more sensors to a remote location. An amount of data exchanged between the railcar controller and the one or more sensors is controlled based on a railcar context. The railcar context is based on a location and/or activity associated with the railcar.

The on-board device includes a receiver having an antenna for picking up the telegram transmitted by the balise and delivering a reception signal to a processing unit. The processing unit is configured for processing the reception signal in order to read the telegram sent by the balise. A test component is configured for adding a test signal to the reception signal before its processing by the processing unit. The test signal is configured to act as a noise for limiting a sensitivity of the receiver, making it therefore impossible to read a cross-talk signal. A method for protecting the on-board device from cross-talk is also provided.
