In a method for operating a system having first and additional mobile parts and having a stationary controller, and a system for carrying out a method, the system has a connection between the controller and the first mobile part and between the controller and the additional mobile parts. The first mobile part detects and transmits to the controller its position and/or the position of its rear edge, and each additional mobile part detects and transmits to the controller its position and/or the position of its front edge. The controller determines the additional mobile parts most closely adjacent to and following the first mobile part and transmits the position and/or the position of the rear edge of the first mobile part to the additional mobile part. The following mobile part adds its braking distance, to which a safety distance and a safety range are added, to the position and/or to the front edge of the next-closest, following mobile part and monitors this calculated position for collision with the rear edge of the first mobile part.

System for controlling or monitoring a vehicle system along a route

System includes a control system used to control operation of a vehicle system as the vehicle system moves along a route. A travelling vehicle system includes travelling vehicles and a controller. The controller includes a storage that stores a last permitted travelling vehicle, to which a passage permission is transmitted lastly and the passage permission for which is not canceled, for each direction in a branching section or a merging section included in a blocking area, stores a last canceled travelling vehicle, the passage permission for which is canceled lastly, for each direction in the blocking area, and stores the travelling vehicle, to which the passage permission in a same direction in the blocking area is transmitted lastly, as a forward travelling vehicle of a travelling vehicle waiting for the permission to pass through the blocking area at the time of transmission of the passage permission to the passage-permission waiting travelling vehicle, and a determiner that determines whether to give passage permission to the travelling vehicle waiting for the permission.

ADAPTIVE CODING, MODULATION, AND POWER CONTROL FOR POSITIVE TRAIN CONTROL SYSTEMS
20220212700 · 2022-07-07 ·

To improve throughput rates of packets transmitting positive train control (PTC) messages in an asynchronous wireless network that supports controlling movement of trains, data rates are adjusted based one or more conditions of the link. Modulation and coding schemes with less overhead can be employed to increase the data rate at which information is transferred when an estimated link quality or conditions are relatively good. Conversely, when the estimated link quality is relatively poor, more robust modulation and coding schemes for transmissions can be used to maintain link performance but at the cost of reduced data rates. Optionally, if the estimated link quality is higher than required to achieve a predefined maximum transmit rate at a given default power rate, transmit power can be reduced to that necessary for transmit at the predefined maximum transmit rate.
