Leaning vehicle

A leaning vehicle includes: a body frame; a right wheel and a left wheel; a linkage mechanism including arms rotatably supported on the body frame; a left-right tilt angle control mechanism configured to control a tilt angle of the body frame in a left direction or in the right direction by adjusting a rotation of the arms with respect to the body frame; and a control section. The control section controls the left-right tilt angle control mechanism to change the tilt angle of the body frame in the left direction or in the right direction in accordance with an input to the leaning vehicle from a rider while the leaning vehicle is stopped.

Vehicle steering system

A vehicle, vehicle frame, and steering system usable with the vehicle and vehicle frame. The steering system including a first and second knuckle mounted to a vehicle frame and configured to rotate with respect to the vehicle frame to turn the wheels, and a pitman arm link rotatable relative to the vehicle frame. The steering system further includes a first tie rod operably connected to the first knuckle to the pitman arm link bracket via a pitman arm and pitman connector, and a second tie rod connecting the second knuckle to the pitman arm link. A pitman connector is rotatably operatively connected to the pitman arm link, wherein the pitman arm thereby transfers pivoting or rotational motion applied via a steering input from the pitman arm to the pitman arm link, to respective knuckles via the first and second tie rods.

Vehicle steering system

A vehicle, vehicle frame, and steering system usable with the vehicle and vehicle frame. The steering system including a first and second knuckle mounted to a vehicle frame and configured to rotate with respect to the vehicle frame to turn the wheels, and a pitman arm link rotatable relative to the vehicle frame. The steering system further includes a first tie rod operably connected to the first knuckle to the pitman arm link bracket via a pitman arm and pitman connector, and a second tie rod connecting the second knuckle to the pitman arm link. A pitman connector is rotatably operatively connected to the pitman arm link, wherein the pitman arm thereby transfers pivoting or rotational motion applied via a steering input from the pitman arm to the pitman arm link, to respective knuckles via the first and second tie rods.

Mobility vehicle

In some embodiments, a vehicle may include a frame having longitudinal axis. The vehicle may include a steering assembly having a steering input and at least one wheel. The steering assembly may be coupled to the frame and configured to steer the vehicle based on input from a steering input. The vehicle may include a first drive wheel and a second drive wheel. The vehicle may include a steering position sensor configured to detect steering input including a position of the steering input and at least one of i) a rate of change of position of steering input and ii) steering position time. The vehicle may include at least one controller configured to process a signal from the steering position sensor and, in response to the processed signal, drive the first drive wheel and the second drive wheel, the first drive wheel being driven independent of the second drive wheel.

Methods and apparatus for reconfigurable autonomous vehicle

A vehicle may have a seat and front wheel similar to those of a bicycle. However, the vehicle may have two rear wheels. The position of the two rear wheels may be adjustable. When the two rear wheels touch each other, the vehicle may function as a bicycle. When they are moved apart, the vehicle may function as a tricycle. In tricycle mode, the vehicle may travel autonomously without a human rider. In bicycle mode, a human may ride the vehicle like a bicycle. To transition between bicycle and tricycle modes, each rear wheel may rotate about a horizontal axis that is parallel to a longitudinal axis of the vehicle. In some cases, a bike chain is connected to only one of the rear wheels. In bicycle mode, motion imparted by the chain to one rear wheel may be transferred to the other by friction.

A drive assistance device (24) for a saddle type vehicle (1) includes a ride sensor (37) configured to detect a ride attitude of a rider (J), a vehicle body behavior generating part (25) configured to generate a behavior on a vehicle body by a prescribed output, and a controller (27) configured to control driving of the vehicle body behavior generating part (25), the vehicle body behavior generating part (25) includes a brake device (BR) configured to brake a host vehicle, and wherein, when the brake device (BR) is actuated regardless of an operation of the rider (J), the controller (27) actuates the brake device (BR) according to the ride attitude of the rider (J) detected by the ride sensor (37).

Straddled vehicle having handlebar

A straddled vehicle includes a vehicle body frame, a steering shaft supported by the vehicle body frame, a handlebar that includes a left grip and a right grip and is connected to the steering shaft, a steering wheel, and a steering assist device that applies assist force in a same direction as that of a steering torque that has been input to the handlebar by a rider to the steering shaft. The steering assist device causes the assist force to decrease as speed of the vehicle increases in a first vehicle speed zone and causes the assist force to increase as the speed of the vehicle increases in a second vehicle speed zone that is higher than the first vehicle speed zone.

Straddled vehicle having handlebar

A straddled vehicle includes a vehicle body frame, a steering shaft supported by the vehicle body frame, a handlebar that includes a left grip and a right grip and is connected to the steering shaft, a steering wheel, and a steering assist device that applies assist force in a same direction as that of a steering torque that has been input to the handlebar by a rider to the steering shaft. The steering assist device causes the assist force to decrease as speed of the vehicle increases in a first vehicle speed zone and causes the assist force to increase as the speed of the vehicle increases in a second vehicle speed zone that is higher than the first vehicle speed zone.

A three-wheeled vehicle having a front wheel assembly attached to a chassis. The chassis includes a rotational control shaft having a rotational axis that is generally directed in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The rotational control shaft is integrated with or secured to the chassis in a non-rotational manner and passes through the front wheel assembly in a rotationally-free manner, such that the rotational control shaft can rotate about its rotational axis. The front wheel assembly includes one or more lean control motors, which are operably configured to rotate the rotational control shaft about its rotational axis thereby causing the chassis to lean from side to side to improve the handling ability of the vehicle. Some embodiments include a lean control system configured to automatically control the degree of rotation of the chassis.
