FLOW MODIFICATION DEVICE HAVING HELICAL STRAKES AND A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MODIFYING FLOW
A flow modification device connectable to a generally cylindrical element adapted for immersion in a fluid medium is provided. The device comprises an elongate body having a length and a generally circular cross-section; a plurality of raised body portions disposed about and extending along the length of the elongate body, the raised body portions having a height between 2% and 10% of a diameter of the body; and an aperture extending through the length of the elongate body, the aperture being adapted to receive the generally cylindrical element such that the flow modification device is arranged about the cylindrical element. The plurality of raised body portions are helically arranged or twisted about a longitudinal axis of the elongate body and are adapted to reduce vortex-induced vibration and/or drag on the cylindrical element when the device is connected to the cylindrical element and the connected device and cylindrical element are immersed in the fluid medium and there is relative movement between the connected device and cylindrical element and the fluid medium.

Buoy
A buoy includes a surface unit comprising a sealed tank comprising an inflatable bag, a tubular wall of axis z and a bottom, the tubular wall and the bottom delimiting a volume referred to as the inner volume, the surface unit comprising at least one cartridge enclosing a compressed gas that can be released in such a way as to inflate the inflatable bag such that it functions as a float in an operational configuration of the buoy, and the sealed tank comprises a projecting container protruding from the bottom and extending out from the inner volume, from the bottom.
Stokes drifter
The present disclosure relates to drifters that float and take measurements at, or very near, a surface of a body of water. The drifters may have a design that reduces wind force effects but does not diminish Stokes drift force effects. The drifters may have two opposing exterior surfaces with antennas and sensors on each of the opposing surfaces so that the drifters may always utilize at least some of the antennas and sensors, regardless of the drifter's orientation in the water.

BUOY WITH BUOYANT CORE AND COLLAR HAVING MULTIPLE FLOTATION COMPONENTS
The invention relates to a buoy comprising a buoyant, plastic core component, and a plurality of detachable flotation components that support and surround the core component. The buoy is preferably more than 2.5 metres diameter, but the diameter of the core component is preferably less than or equal to 2.35 metres diameter. This facilitates transport in a single shipping container. A novel tie bar assembly and novel lifting/mooring mounts are also disclosed.
System for measuring mechanical properties of sea floor sediments at full ocean depths
The present invention discloses a system for measuring the mechanical properties of sea floor sediments at full ocean depth. The system includes an overwater monitoring unit and an underwater measurement device, where the underwater measurement device includes an observation platform and a measuring mechanism; the observation platform includes a frame-type body and a floating body, a wing panel, a floating ball cabin, a leveling mechanism, a counterweight, and a release mechanism mounted on the frame-type body; the floating ball cabin seals a circuit system; the leveling mechanism adjusts the underwater measurement device horizontally on the sea floor when the frame-type body reaches the sea floor; the release mechanism discards the counterweight for recovery of the unit after the underwater measurement device completes the underwater operation; the measuring mechanism includes at least one of a cone penetration measuring mechanism, a spherical penetration measuring mechanism, and a vane shear measuring mechanism, or a sampling mechanism.

Underwater body having a variable volume and method for operating such an underwater body
An underwater body having a movable component which can be moved into a retracted position and, as a result, increases the volume of the underwater body. In addition, a method is disclosed for operating such an underwater body. An expansion means conducts a fluid into a hollow space. The hollow space is operatively connected to the movable component. When the fluid is conducted into the hollow space, the movable component is moved into the extended position relative to the shell of the underwater body. The fluid in the hollow space hardens. The hardened fluid in the hollow space holds the movable component in the extended position.
