Wind Data Based Flight Maps for Aircraft
The technology relates to generating a flight map for an aircraft. For instance, this may include, running a plurality of simulations by placing a simulated aircraft within each cell of a grid representing areas of the earth and using predicted wind data. Each simulations identifies a cell in which each aircraft is located at the end of the simulation. A connection graph may be generated using any identified cells. The connection graph may be used to determine a flight map for an actual aircraft using a cost function and iterating from a destination cell to an initial cell. The flight map may be used to determine a route for the actual aircraft. In some examples, the flight map may be refined by running further simulations. The refined flight map may then be used to determine a route for the actual aircraft.
ENERGY BEAM INTERCEPTOR
Disclosed is an energy beam interceptor that includes an interceptor vehicle of either a missile or a lighter than air vehicle that carries an energy beam generator with a minimum power output of approximately 500 W, a high density power supply that power the energy beam generator, an energy beam targeting apparatus that directs emissions from the energy beam generator and an energy beam targeting controller that targets emissions from the energy beam generator with the energy beam targeting apparatus.

Landing apparatus for an air vehicle
A landing apparatus for an airship or hybrid air vehicle. The landing apparatus comprises a hollow, non-toroidal, flexible enclosure (103), having a substantially vertical axis (104), and a substantially circular cross-section centred on the axis. A base (122) of the enclosure is arranged to contact the ground. The enclosure (103) is inflatable with air or gas for landing, and deflatable for retraction of the enclosure during flight.
DROGUE DEPLOYMENT FOR LIGHTER THAN AIR VEHICLE DESCENT
The technology relates to techniques for drogue deployment for a lighter than air (LTA) vehicle descent. A drogue deployment system for an LTA vehicle descent can include a drogue comprising a drogue parachute coupled to a carrier. A spring can be configured to launch the drogue from a launch tube directed outward from an apex of the LTA vehicle in an acute angle from a horizontal plane. A core can be placed around the launch tube and placed around the spring, the core compressing the spring and holding the spring in a compressed state prior to deployment, and a riser can couple the carrier to the envelope of the LTA vehicle. In some cases, the drogue deployment system can comprise two or more drogues, wherein intervals between the two or more drogues can be selected such that horizontal components of drogue deployment forces approximately cancel out.
Systems and methods for long endurance airship operations
In one example, a long endurance airship system includes a first combined airship with a payload airship and a first logistics airship. The first combined airship is configured for stationkeeping at a predetermined station during meteorological conditions with wind speeds below a predetermined threshold. The airship system also includes a second combined airship which is a reconfiguration of the first combined airship and includes the payload airship and a second logistics airship. The second combined airship is configured for stationkeeping at the predetermined station in all meteorological conditions, including meteorological conditions with wind speeds above the predetermined threshold.
