FLEXIBLE BATTERY SYSTEM FOR A VEHICLE
A configuration instruction associated with configuring a plurality of batteries which supply power to a plurality of motors in a vehicle is received. The batteries are configuring as specified by the configuration instruction, where the batteries are able to be configured in a plurality of configurations, including: a first configuration where at least some of the batteries are electrically connected together in parallel and a second configuration where at least some of the batteries are electrically connected together in series.
Autonomous Aerial Vehicle Hardware Configuration
An introduced autonomous aerial vehicle can include multiple cameras for capturing images of a surrounding physical environment that are utilized for motion planning by an autonomous navigation system. In some embodiments, the cameras can be integrated into one or more rotor assemblies that house powered rotors to free up space within the body of the aerial vehicle. In an example embodiment, an aerial vehicle includes multiple upward-facing cameras and multiple downward-facing cameras with overlapping fields of view to enable stereoscopic computer vision in a plurality of directions around the aerial vehicle. Similar camera arrangements can also be implemented in fixed-wing aerial vehicles.
POWER LINE INSPECTION VEHICLE
An exemplary unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) mountable to a conductor of an aerial power transmission line system includes a body having a rotor system, a motivation system attached to the body to motivate the UAV along the conductor, a battery carried by the body and electrically connected to at least one of the rotor system and the motivation system, a monitoring tool mounted with the body and an inductive coil carried by the body and in electric connection with the battery, wherein the inductive coil is configured to harvest electricity from the aerial power transmission line system and charge the battery.
Sensor for monitoring rotors
A sensor for monitoring rotors includes a rotating shaft coupled to a set of rotor blades and a non-rotating tube at least partially disposed within the rotating shaft and coupled to the rotating shaft. The non-rotating tube includes a first end and a second end, a sensor mount disposed within the non-rotating tube proximate to the second end of the non-rotating tube. One or more sensors are attached to the sensor mount.
Method for assisting a single-engine rotorcraft during an engine failure
An assistance method for assisting a pilot of a single-engined rotary-wing aircraft during a flight phase in autorotation, the aircraft including a hybrid power plant provided with a main engine, with an electric machine, with a main gearbox, and with an electrical energy storage device. The aircraft also includes a main rotor driven by the hybrid power plant. In the method, during a flight, operation of the main engine is monitored in order to detect a failure, in particular by means of a drop in power on the main rotor, then, when a failure of the main engine is detected, the electric machine is controlled to deliver auxiliary power We to the main rotor, making it possible to assist a pilot of the aircraft in performing the flight phase in autorotation following the failure.
CORE MATERIAL FOR BALANCED ROTOR BLADE
A method of forming a balanced rotor blade assembly includes measuring a weight of a plurality of sub-components of the rotor blade assembly excluding a core. A configuration of a core of the rotor blade assembly is determined. In combination, the core and the plurality of sub-components achieve a target weight distribution and moment. The core is then fabricated and assembled with the plurality of sub-components to form a rotor blade sub-assembly.
System for reducing vibrations or stresses in a rotor blade system
In one aspect, the present disclosure provides a system for reducing vibrations or stresses in a rotor blade system. The system may include at least three rotor blades configured to be rotated about a main rotor axis, where each of the three rotor blades may be adjusted by at least one electrically-adjustable control rod of a plurality of control rods. The plurality of control rods may include a first number of control rods forming a first group, and the plurality of control rods may include a second number of control rods forming a second group. A first circuit for may activate or deactivate the first group of control rods, and a second circuit may activate or deactivate the second group of control rods.
SPRING-INTEGRATED ROTORS
Spring-integrated rotors are disclosed. A disclosed example apparatus includes a bracket defining a first rotational axis and coupled to a motor for rotating the bracket about the first rotational axis, a pivot body defining a second rotational axis extending along a direction different than the first rotational axis, the pivot body coupled to the bracket for rotation about the second rotational axis, and at least one spring device positioned at the bracket, the at least one spring device urging the pivot body toward a central position when the bracket is rotating.
