DRIVE SHAFT WITH INCREASED BALLISTIC TOLERANCE
An aircraft drive shaft including an outer shaft having a first diameter configured to couple a first gearbox and a second gearbox to provide power transfer between the two gearboxes, an inner shaft concentric with the outer shaft and having a second diameter configured to provide structural support to the outer shaft, a gap defined between an outer peripheral surface of the inner shaft and an inner peripheral surface of the outer shaft, wherein the gap is sized according to a ballistic projectile cross-section size that the aircraft is considered to encounter on an upcoming mission, and a sleeve located at least at first end of the outer shaft connecting the outer shaft to the inner shaft.

Rigid ballistic composites having large denier per filament yarns
A rigid ballistic-resistant composite includes large denier per filament (dpf) yarns. The yarns are held in place by a resin to form a rigid composite panel with improved ballistic performance. The large dpf yarns may be selected from aromatic heterocyclic co-polyamide fibers, polyester-polyarylate fibers, high modulus polypropylene (HMPP) fibers, ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibers, poly(p-phenylene-2,6-benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fibers, poly-diimidazo pyridinylene (dihydroxy) phenylene (PIPD) fibers, carbon fibers, and polyolefin fibers.

A WEAPON SYSTEM
According to an aspect of the invention, there is provided a weapon system for use on a vehicle, comprising: a control system, the control system configured to, in response to a determination that a line-of-sight from the weapon system to a target of the weapon system is currently, or going to be obscured, trigger an alteration of a configuration of the vehicle such that the line-of-sight to the target is not obscured. Thus, the weapon system can ensure a line-of-sight of the target, allowing it to be successfully engaged.
