Aerial Vehicle Refueling System incorporating a Universal Refueling Interface
A system for autonomously replacing batteries or fuel cells on small aerial vehicles such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or radio-controlled aircraft (RC) is described. At the core of this system is a “universal battery receptacle” that can be added to a variety of unmanned aircraft platforms and provides a uniform interface for battery or fuel cell replacement in the form of a commensurately designed “universal fuel cell”.
Additionally, a system is described through which an aerial vehicle can be accepted, manipulated, the batteries replaced, and the vehicle re-launched, all without direct user intervention. Such systems can be deployed across a geographic area to increase the range of aerial vehicles without extensive ground support personnel.
Unmanned aerial vehicle angular reorientation
A system comprising an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) having wing elements and tail elements configured to roll to angularly orient the UAV by rolling so as to align a longitudinal plane of the UAV, in its late terminal phase, with a target. A method of UAV body re-orientation comprising: (a) determining by a processor a boresight angle error correction value bases on distance between a target point and a boresight point of a body-fixed frame; and (b) effecting a UAV maneuver comprising an angular role rate component translating the target point to a re-oriented target point in the body-fixed frame, to maintain the offset angle via the offset angle correction value.
Multirotor Vertical Takeoff And Landing Aircraft With Cyclorotor For Lateral Control
A vertical takeoff and landing aircraft capable of six degree-of-freedom motion where lift, pitch, and roll are provided by multirotors oriented vertically, lateral translation is provided by a cyclorotor oriented vertically, and yaw is provided by a combination of the cyclorotor and the multirotors. The invention includes a frame, which supports the multirotors and cyclorotors. The frame also supports a payload and battery which are positioned at the extreme ends of the frame. The aircraft is capable of hovering precisely to position a payload close to or touching a target surface in the air.
Unmanned fluid-propelled aerial vehicle
A water-propelled or water-powered unmanned aerial vehicle including a base configured to carry a payload, and at least one nozzle attached thereto. The at least one nozzle is configured to selectively receive pressurized fluid from a source located remotely from the vehicle. The vehicle includes a control system configured to alter or otherwise selectively dictate the flow of fluid through the at least one nozzle and/or the orientation of the at least one nozzle with respect to the base in response to a received control signal for providing controlled unmanned vehicle flight.

An apparatus comprising a body defining a first vertical axis, two or more frame members each having a longitudinal axis and having an inner-end and an outer-end connected to the body at the inner-end and where a first horizontal geometrical plane is generally coincident with the longitudinal axis of each of the two or more frame members and where the first horizontal geometrical plane is generally orthogonal to the first vertical axis, two or more rotary-wings each comprising one or more blades whose rotation defines a first rotational axis which is configurable to be nearly parallel with the first vertical axis and comprising a second rotational axis which is configurable to be approximately parallel first horizontal geometrical plane where a first of the two or more rotary-wings having a blade-inner-end and a first blade-outer-end rotatably connected by its blade-inner-end to a first transmission is disposed substantially on the outer-end of a first of the two or more frame members, a second of the two or more rotary-wings having a blade-inner-end and a blade-outer-end rotatably connected by its blade-inner-end to a second transmission is disposed substantially on the outer-end of a second of the two or more frame members, where each of the first rotational axes is disposed on the opposite side of plane which is coincident with the first vertical axis, where the direction of rotation of a first of the two or more rotary-wings about its first rotational axis is opposite of that of the second of the two or more rotary-wings about its first rotational axis, and, where the rotational disk defined by the rotation of the blade-outer-end of the first of the two or more rotary-wings is at least partially coincident with rotational disk defined by the rotation of the blade-outer-end of the second of the two or more rotary-wings.
MACHINE COMPRISING A HYBRID POWERTRAIN AND CORRESPONDING CONTROL METHOD
An engine (100) is provided with a powertrain including a heat engine (1) and an output shaft (A1), an electric motor (2), a battery (40) for supplying the electric motor (2) and a propeller propulsion system including a propeller (3) and a propeller shaft (A3), to which the propeller (3) is coupled. The powertrain includes a system of clutches (E123, E14, E23, E324) designed for different configurations to selectively drive the propeller using the heat engine without transmission of the rotation of the electric motor to the propeller; using the electric motor without transmission of the rotation of the heat engine to the propeller; using combined transmission of the rotation of the heat engine and the rotation of the electric motor to the propeller. The electric motor includes a stator and a rotor mounted for rotation about a shaft rigidly connected, or capable of being coupled, to the propeller shaft.
Lift nacelle
A lift nacelle may comprise an airflow generator; a sidewall system coupled to the airflow generator and spanning in a first direction, wherein the sidewall system defines a nacelle interior space, wherein the airflow generator defines one of a forward boundary or an aft boundary of the nacelle interior space; and a lift body disposed in the nacelle interior space and spanning substantially perpendicular to the first direction and substantially perpendicular to an upward lift direction. The airflow generator may be configured to accelerate airflow in an aft direction into the nacelle interior space through the forward boundary of the nacelle interior space. The airflow may contact and/or interact with the lift body creating lift in response.
Autonomous hydrogen refueling
A system and a method for autonomous hydrogen refueling of vertical lift aircraft using a landing pad with sensors, a hydrogen storage tank, a refueling arm configured to couple the hydrogen storage tank to the aircraft and a controller configured to control a flow of fuel from the hydrogen storage tank to the aircraft.
AERIAL VEHICLE WITH ENHANCED PITCH CONTROL AND INTERCHANGEABLE COMPONENTS
An aircraft capable of vertical take-off and landing comprises a fuselage, at least one processor carried by the fuselage and a pair of aerodynamic, lift-generating wings extending from the fuselage. A plurality of vectoring rotors are rotatably carried by the fuselage so as to be rotatable between a substantially vertical configuration relative to the fuselage for vertical take-off and landing and a substantially horizontal configuration relative to the fuselage for horizontal flight. The vectoring rotors are unsupported by the first pair of wings. The wings may be modular and removably connected to the fuselage and configured to be interchangeable with an alternate pair of wings. A cargo container may be secured to the underside of the fuselage, and the cargo container may be modular and interchangeable with an alternate cargo container.
SINGLE MOTOR SINGLE ACTUATOR ROTORCRAFT
An unmanned rotorcraft includes an airframe, rotor blades that are coupled to the airframe for rotation therewith, a propulsion unit having a propeller, and an actuator that is coupled to the airframe and adapted to temporarily reorient the propulsion unit such that an axis of the propeller moves out of alignment with an axis of the rotor blades. Rotation of the propeller causes counter-rotation of the airframe and rotor blades. The rotor blades and blades of the propeller are adapted to deploy from collapsed positions when flight of the rotorcraft is initiated. A method of operation by the rotorcraft includes, when it is determined that a current heading does not correspond to a determined flight path, causing the actuator to temporarily reorient the propulsion unit in accordance with an angular orientation of the actuator relative to the current heading.
