The container may comprise a box, a lid, at least a first bundle and a second bundle of consumer goods, and an expandable spacer. The expandable spacer comprises at least one spacer weakening line. The at least one spacer weakening line is provided on the spacer bottom wall. The expandable spacer has an initial size that is defined by an initial distance between the first side wall and the second side wall of the expandable spacer for containing a predetermined number of consumer goods. The spacer weakening line is configured to break when more than the predetermined number of consumer goods are inserted between the expandable spacer walls so that the first and the second side walls of the expandable spacer are spaced further apart. Methods of using disclosed containers are also disclosed.

PACKAGE WITH LOCKING MECHANISM

A package includes a base, a lid, and a locking mechanism. The locking mechanism includes an arm and a flexible member. The arm extends from the lid and has a first engaging structure. The member includes a flexible rib connected to a base floor, and a second engaging structure and a contact structure on a rib outer surface. The member flexes in response to a first force applied in a first direction to the contact structure and relaxes in response to absence of the first force. The member engages the first and second engaging structures based on the member being relaxed while the lid is closed. The member disengages the first and second engaging structures based on the member being flexed while the lid is closed. The lid may be opened based on applying a second force to the lid in a second direction while the member is flexed.

A conventional cigarette pack includes a thin pouch of heat-resistant flexible material disposed therein. The pouch has a recloseable top opening that is sized to permit a cigarette butt to be placed in the pouch following withdrawal of a cigarette from the pack. The pouch expands to fill the space in the pack created when each successive cigarette is withdrawn to be smoked. When the entire contents of the pack are consumed by the smoker, the pack and/or the pouch filled with butts can responsibly be disposed of to avoid adverse environmental impact.
